I have a confession. I was mean to a teacher directing traffic at the school this morning.

She always wants me to stop right in the driveway to let the kids out. I followed her directions once and someone in a hurry almost smashed my grandson between the door and the car trying to get out of the driveway. So no, I don't pull that far forward. Well today she felt the need to tell me she needs me to pull all the way up. There wasn't a long line and I left room for others to get out so I said no I was staying there and it's not that busy. She smiled in an acidic way and told me to have a nice day and that was it...I got out of the car. I explained how dangerous their little setup is there and that I don't want my kids hurt or my car damaged; next year maybe someone with a half a brain should plan out their drop off and pick up program because clearly that's not what has happened this year. Then I left after getting her name.

Too much? Maybe but today I just don't care. Do you guys ever get to that point? I have no filter right now, I'm terrible

Personally, I applaud you. You're looking out for the safety of those you love. She's concerned about a process of convenience that someone told her to implement irrespective of consequences. And for what it's worth...I was the terror of the schoolyard over the same issue when my son was younger. Just because the people devising the system work at a school, that doesn't mean they're smart or have a clue what they're doing.

Yes, sometimes it's hard to keep your temper with stupid people. They mentioned on the new's that there are hundreds of teachers in the school's here in AZ. that weren't even qualified to be teacher's. It made me stop and think about how much are the student's really learning in those schools?

@igorsMistress and @DesertChic I would shake your hands. Five kids I moved through school systems - mostly in Alaska where they know the ins and outs of snow and roads. Come to AZ - one left in high school and dang it was hard for them to understand those who saw things differently. While this is not a school drop off safety issue it did create a slider student! Ak schools are way ahead of AZ schools and my kids got many of their requirements out of the way early and got college credit. BUT here we HAD to take a course that was already passed in AK because it was required in AZ as a freshman. No testing out, not checking on records, none of those things. He didn't even crack the book. Things have changed since and we lived through it with supplement community college courses but geeeeezzzzz! Please go to that principal and discuss the issue, not the person, and you may open a few eyes.

As a former teacher I totally understand your frustration! Our drop off/pick up system was such a disorganized, chaotic mess and we constantly complained to admin about it. They never listened and never tried to change the system. There were car accidents and the police had to come several times to direct traffic because our lines had spilled out into the main road. I used to secretly hope that parents would call to complain about it, maybe that would get them to actually listen and make changes. You ought to be able to pick up your child without fear of an accident occurring.

Our state is abismal when it comes to school function. We are so desperate to get teachers in classrooms that we are literally hiring anyone with a bachelor's degree. Turnover rates are at an all-time high. It's sad. At the charter school I used to work at, they would hire people who were not certified to teach, and then require them to get certified within a few years. Legally they have to send letters home at the beginning of the year explaining that the teacher is not "highly qualified" (certified). With the teacher shortage you can expect more and more of those letters going home every year. I saw so many students fall through the cracks and not get the educational experience they deserved because they had someone in the classroom who had never taught before, wasnt properly trained, and whose heart wasn't in it. It is so wrong and disappointing :hmm

I was in town this week, and saw the pick up line to a charter school it was down 1/2 mile down the street and I was glad I was going the opposite way not stuck there amongst waiting parents
I did see unsafe cars going down, making a u turn to try to beat the line lol

I think you are amongst the norm if you get frustrated bc I've seen it lots off time just driving by schools, the worst are elementary as they can take forever getting in/out and waiting on multiple siblings...

Our power was out all day (9:30am to 4:30pm!) yesterday so I'm just now catching up! The tower that supplies our power was knocked down...not sure if it was lightening or what but we did get some nice rain yesterday. Luckily it wasn't too hot, so I didn't melt without AC access. Looks like a few storm clouds are puffing up over the mountain now.
