Arizona Chickens

Our state is abismal when it comes to school function. We are so desperate to get teachers in classrooms that we are literally hiring anyone with a bachelor's degree. Turnover rates are at an all-time high. It's sad. At the charter school I used to work at, they would hire people who were not certified to teach, and then require them to get certified within a few years. Legally they have to send letters home at the beginning of the year explaining that the teacher is not "highly qualified" (certified). With the teacher shortage you can expect more and more of those letters going home every year. I saw so many students fall through the cracks and not get the educational experience they deserved because they had someone in the classroom who had never taught before, wasnt properly trained, and whose heart wasn't in it. It is so wrong and disappointing :hmm

That is exactly what I mean. The kid's are falling through the cracks when they have a teacher who doesn't know how to teach! There's an old saying "Children live what they learn." If they are learning nothing, then they will live nothing! How sad!

So the Alohas are about 6(?) weeks now, and "getting along" with the older hens. Do I let the chicks have layer food, or the hens have the chick starter? or just mix it all together and hope for the best?

:heOh yeah, and if your phone is ever removed:hit from your possesion... try the locator service BEFORE you suspend the phone service. ugggg
What I do is keep layer pellets in hanging feeders, and the whole flock gets a fermented feed that I make that's more of an all-flock mix. The younger birds don't eat the pellets because they are still too small for pellets. The hens are big enough and eat them every day.

Thanks,
Something to try .
The Alohas are almost as big as my EE's

It started raining at about 9:15 Tonight, hubby and I went out after the thunderclaps moved on and put 18 ee's in the coop, most were under the shade so they weren't wet but the ones on the end were pretty wet... I'm glad I went out bc it started up again right now and may last a couple hours

It was nerve wracking bc of distant lightning but I hurried

Miss broody Rambita was safe in the box in the mansion

It was hubbies birthday today, so we went out to Red Lobster for his King Crab that he like's so well. Driving there we ran into a big dust storm, and traffic was moving very slowly with many vehicles that had pulled over on the side of the road. I didn't see any rain though, and the ground still look's dry here at home.

I went to the feed store yesterday and the regular feed I buy was infested with bugs. :sick Not happy and have been thinking about trying something else so I picked up an all flock pellet. I'm going to ferment it with the regular stuff as I make the change over and see how it goes. This bag is 50 lbs and was $3 less than tge 40 lb bags I was getting of the other stuff. We will see how it goes I guess.
