Arizona Chickens

Well I was a good girl and went to 5 hours of traffic school this morning - no points or accident on my record. It was interesting and I learned something - the class was big but still moved along okay. The instructor had great personal experience and knowledge.
On another note - billy goats pee on their beard that is true - some may get in their mouths but not on purpose. The musk brings a nanny into heat and tells the girls that he's ready. Its all about the musk smell and apparently the more the better. Young wethers or kids do not do this until they are sexually mature. If you neuter them they don't do it at all. Most folks if they are going to eat the meat neuter as soon as possible. Some spay the females but usually have them for milk. You MUST have them bred at least once a year or so as they must freshen to being milk production again. I just took my girls to the billy for about a 3 day to a week period. Are sheep better? I don't know anything about sheep except I had kids allergic to their wool.
@meetthebubus Marshmellow has told Picasso that she is his girl and Picasso is saying okay. I love seeing how new pullets get split between roosters when they start getting old enough. He probably wouldn't breed her yet until her comb starts turning pretty red. They notice that too. They are sure interesting creatures!
Wow am I tired and boy is my chicken yard DIRTY!! Tomorrow I MUST spend some time with the ladies. I also have a white egg that I don't know who is laying. Gotta get to watching!!

It's interesting how we can also learn about different animals that we ourselves don't even have. That is why we joined here though is to learn, right?

The reason why I would consider getting sheep is because I have eaten the meat before from sheep, and I like it.

I hate it when life stuff keeps me away from my bubus!

Mr Roo Bubu doesn't have a choice in getting Picasso. The buff orps are pretty exclusive and are not super nice Roo shooed her away when she was smaller, plus he's older so marshmellow still being only 10 months was more than happy to accept pullet number 19 lol you are right it is interesting how the relationship has changed and so quickly :)

I have a variety including cuckoo marans, black copper marana, blue copper marans, golden laced wing Wyandotte, barred rock, buff orpington, rhode island red, leg horns, Eegger, and some mutt birds. I have 20 Chickens all together. They free range most of the time, when someone is home.

I use tarps where needed for warmth or to keep dry. I would prefer to use canvas but well they really cost money and I can get tarps free at harbor freight.

I got a free tarp from there recently too! I wouldn't buy them for the chickens myself asvwell but free why not?! Lol they deteriorate so fast in this AZ sun :)
Plus I'm putting my hubbys new idea into works for shade we already started it... you can see it in my next video once I put it out what it is!......
