Arizona Chickens

Teasing us about a new idea for shade? @meetthebubus patiently waiting. Is the video done yet?

:lau ya caught me I filmed it, its a updated tour of the run with the new idea... it's very hillbilly-ish but it works for me I still have to edit it, which doesn't take long but what really does is uploading it to youtube... it's coming soon!.....:pop

Ack it's going to be so cold in a few days! I feel like I need to add more wind protection to my coop for the winter...

Yep! Definitely cold. I went from having a bumper crop of tomatoes happily growing toward ripeness to having a bunch of massive, dead tomato plants ready for the compost bin. VERY depressing. I harvest over 60 green tomatoes and half a dozen Marconi peppers I hope will ripen in the house.

The chickens don't like the shift to cold temps either since many are still growing in their new feathers, but they're still shrugging it off better than my plants did.

I turned the heater on yesterday morning for the first time. This morning I broke out my winter coat since I was out there just before dawn. Barefoot of course.

Yes, it's been chilly with the wind blowing like that, you get a wind chill factor. We are still trying to save on the electric over here, and just been turning the heat on in the morning long enough to take off the chill. I have my sweater on the rest of the time, and have a little one of those lap throws for when I sit down to watch tv. Those cups of hot coffee help too!

My thermostat is programmable so about the time hubs gets up I have it set to warm up some so he's not cold, then it goes down again when the kids leave for school and by afternoon it's warm enough we don't really need it. 68 is the lowest we go, the kids would be pretty cold otherwise.
