She has a heart condition that she wont survive if she catches covid. Boogeyman is very real for us.

I work full time, not a home school or housewife mom. She does online school with actual teachers. I don't help her with anything except when she yells that her connection went down She has managed to skip 2 grades with public school.. so it works.

My husband thinks I am a crazy chicken lady already. "How many of these are we keeping", "That would make 35 chickens!", would be just 2 of the latest comments from him. (As he keeps an hourly log of the brooder temp)Little does he know that he is on the chicken math path.

Yesterday was a warm one. I have a chair in their run & as I am filling up the pool for the ducks, moving around the wood blocks that have bugs for them & giving them a treat, I noticed that the NN cockerel is coming closer & running in between my legs with no fear of me, which make me happy. Named him Adam, he even let me pick him up & seemed fine. I plan on adding the no-crow collar once he gets older. We have Rodger-Rodger a bielefelder cockerel that came with a lavender maran. RR has a no-crow collar on & even though I have tried this many times before still there is a little hope that we & my neighbors can handle his low early morning crow. There just never seems to be a solution to keeping a dude.

My dad would do the same... i dont want these animals here!!! 3 hours later... building out a pond, coop, roofing a dog house with shingles, sneaking treats when no one was looking.

So is de-crowing actually illegal? I was reading, and it didn't seem so bad. Just a small slit in the wind pipe so the air escapes before they crow. Definitely need a vet though.

I thought id have dna results back for my silkies already. If it takes much longer, i won't need the results.

I tried to take an updated pic of the black silkie, who i think is male, but i didn't bother after he cut my arm w his crazy feet scratching me. Seems like there are a ton of feathers still pinning on the back of his neck, plus he is overall very large. Hes always chest bumping and overall not the sweet bundle of fluff i envisioned getting w a silkie!!

The little partridge silkie is the one i am really hoping is female. So the crest isn't exceptionally poofy, but its pretty even and very soft. Carries her body low, gets along well w the others. Can you guys tell me if i am missing any roo features? They are now 9 weeks old.

I’m going with pullet. I don’t see any streamers.

Adam's dad's name is Rodger, but he's a NN. I went ahead and culled the cockerel, as I think it's too hot for the girl's to have to put up with more than one roo. The only solution to keeping a roo is to live where you can have one at. Some rooster's can also have a higher pitched crow than other's. I like the lower pitched one's.

It sound's like he's well on the way to becoming a crazy chicken guy! He just doesn't know it yet.
