Arizona Chickens

I've been trying to find a ground cover that would choke out the puncture vine, I wonder if the miniclover would do that?
couldn't hurt to try. The clover has white flowers and the puncture vine (aka goat weed or goathead weed) has yellow flowers, so even if you couldn't see the pattern of the leaves, you'd have a few days once you saw any yellow flowers, if any goat weed did come up.

Yeah but they don’t eat much. If I didn’t literally guard the food when I gave FF or a bowl of greens or even some scratch then the pigeons would swarm it and push out the chickens with sheer numbers. I wanted to blast the whole damn bunch with a shotgun.
It takes a little work, but you can get them to stay away by shooing them and hiding the food until they find a new food source. I do the same with grackles.. i will leave the dogs out, take all the food away and even drain the fountain.. then they go find a new yard to victimize. There is a house about 2 blocks away that i can see is the unfortunate pigeon target house.. better them than me though. They are smart and will figure out which place provides the least resistance.

This morning there were fresh coyote tracks by the coop. :( I followed the tracks and they coyote went back to the large plot of state land that borders mine. The tracks stopped right where the hardware cloth around the chicken coop beings, as you can see in the first picture.

Yes, I’ll have six total. It wasn’t my chickens costing me an arm and a leg in feed, it was the wild pigeons.
All the wild birds are going to have a rude awakening in the next few days. I am almost done putting up bird netting around the hard cloth along the whole run. I am putting out some feed for them for a few weeks out in the fro yard to ease them into not eating all of our feed. Inca doves, white wing doves & sparrows are the main ones.

The track looks a little to rounded to be coyote. My guess would be dog. They are much worse than coyotes. I have had problems with skunks, raccoons, feral cats, neighbors dogs, and even a bobcat that got into my run last month. Even though I have tons of coyotes around me, I have not had any problems with them. My birds are always in pens or in a run. seems like the coyote won't go into those enclosed spaces. The other critters have.
