Arizona Chickens

We wish we lived in an area where we could have roosters, we would breed them ourselves and allow the cockerels to grow to the point where they were only eliminated due to overpopulation/competition.

So that puts us back into the incubator business. If Trader Joe's had the brown eggs that were fertilized, we'd be hatching those. The white eggs they sell turn out the leghorn style that we pretty much dislike due to their melodramatic and neurotic personalities. We're trying to avoid getting eggs shipped through the mail.

It would also be nice to hook up with AZ breeders so we could at least see the chickens they are coming from. Everyone we know gets their chicks at Cal Ranch Stores and Tractor Supply.

My egg's are fertiled. I have 2 rooster's here that are about to start breeding, and the rooster that was fetilizing the egg's left 3 day's ago to make room for the new boy's.

I have some Naked Necks that were bred by @BlueBaby on here. I like them. They are mixed, 3 lay green eggs and one is a large bird bred for meat. Here are some of them playing in the compost pile.
Playing in the compost pile... Brings back happy memories from my youth.

But seriously, this is great. There is a video channel on youtube where the guy uses his chickens to scratch his compost pile into usable fertilizer and it appears that is what you are doing. We can't do this because of the neighbors, but we would. All of our compost goes into barrels and we drain off the black water and use that as fertilizer and the black sludge gets turned into the soil.

It's awesome to see others getting back to a more natural form of living. As we are one of the few families we know that do this, it's reassuring to know that we are not alone.

You would like Prescott. We are not supposed to keep roosters here, but there are at least 4 that I know of in my neighborhood. Compost and horses are all here, too.

There are people who have roosters in my neighborhood. I share a wall with people who have chickens and a guy down the street on one side has at least 25 chickens and on the other, raises game cocks. Fortunately for them, they have little to lose while I have everything to lose. We just sneak under the radar....

So you need the females and not the male's?
