I'm in the middle of saving and growing out seeds from a tomato that survived the heatwave with only once a week watering in Mesa this past summer. I call it the MIracle Mesa Heatwave Survivor Tomato - it's an orange colored cherry type tomato that came up as a volunteer while I was out of town so I planted it into a pot.

So if anyone would like some seeds that seem to be germinating 100% so far let me know your mailing address privately and I'll mail them to you in the next week or so.

As of a few minutes ago, there are 4 cuckoo Leghorn and 3 silver grey Dorking eggs in the incubator. I chose the most recent and nicest looking eggs. If all goes right, that should give me 4-5 chickens, and maybe 2-3 pullets. Maybe, if my chicken math is right. *fingers crossed.*

So the silver dorking will be with the cuckoo leghorn rooster? That should be an agile, formidable forager!

In the future, I plan to put the Dorkings and the Leghorns in the same coop. That would make for an interesting cross. Right now, if the Dorking eggs are fertilized, they are fertilized by one of BlueBaby's roosters, possibly an Aloha? Or maybe by the Dorking roo that was there. No telling. Since they are still young pullets, I don't know if their eggs will hatch.

The cuckoo leghorn eggs are fertilized by Big Ben, so the chicks will be all Leghorn.

I added a nice Leghorn egg that someone laid this afternoon for a grand total of 8 eggs. I found a Dorking egg outside this morning before I put them back out, but don't think it would be good after being outside overnight.

Probably fine. Chickens don’t do anything with the eggs prior to sitting them.

I always eat the eggs oldest ones first, and the girls have been way ahead of me. I just cracked open the one that one of the Dorkings laid in the van before I left BlueBaby's house. The bullseye was there, so now I am more confident that the Dorking eggs in the incubator might hatch.

Here is an interesting comparison of eggs. The largest are from Cornish Cross that randomly managed to evade the slaughterhouse. The middle are year old ISA Browns. The smallest are Silver Gray Dorking eggs. They average about >82 grams and are mostly double yolks, 65-70 grams and 49 grams respectively.
