so glad you found our thread! he's a lovely bird, but I have a closed flock and probably shouldn't have roosters anyway. I hope you find a home for him.

He is beautiful! I like the boys, but I had to send my 2 best ones to @BlueBaby due to my neighbor calling animal control. Now she is cruising my neighborhood, and she told me that she plays You Tube recordings of roosters crowing on her phone to get the roosters to crow back. Nice young lady, I told her we were sending all the roosters to @CaroleW in Chino Valley!

sounds like a suspicious vehicle prowling the neighborhood, or harassment! I hope her car tires find a few nails.

phew, I thought she was trying to provoke the roosters into crowing so she could report them.
She is, but only when someone has called & reported crowing. What better way to find those illegal roosters? I admit, I am still harboring a few of those delinquents. Told her, too. When they crow, they gotta go. :drool

One of my favorite neighbors called and wanted to know about the Animal Control truck she saw. I told her the roosters were reported, and she was pretty mad about who could do such a thing. She was not surprised when I told her about our confrontation with the guy who reported us. I had to tell her that the roosters went to Chino Valley. She would be sad to know where most of them go.

With 15, is it unlikely that more than 2 would go broody and take up all the boxes? My husband was talking about doing 2 coops instead of 1 and both would have access to the same run space, will this be problematic like a chicken rivalry between the 2 coops or will they all try to cram into 1?
They will go back to their own coop at night. You might want to remove a broody and put her in a separate "broody breaker" cage if you think she is keeping the other hens out of the boxes too much. Sometimes they will break eggs scrambling around trying to get in the already occupied box. They all pick a favorite box, and all want to lay in the same place, soooo funny! Lots of empty boxes, they will all lay in one or 2 boxes.
