Arizona Chickens

I know you have just too many eggs. :highfive: From my flock currently, the production is still slow,, with only 3 laying. I have been baking quite a bit lately,, so egg use is high. We purchase store eggs regularly for that reason.
I do bake multiple loaves of such, and give away to my grown children when they stop by. As well as some neighbors.

You can't just post unlabeled pictures and think you can get away with it.

I will even go 'pretty please' so I can look up the recipes.

One recipe, is my mom's from looooooon ago, and one is by Martha Stewart. , The poppyseed one ,, will have to dig it up in a bit. Also something my mom used to make for Holidays.
I posted recipes, and play by play on a Baking thread. Here are the links.

Hi all, I’m in the Phoenix metro area and am looking for some bantam breeds, specifically Sebrights.

I grew up in northern Utah and raised Silver Sebrights, BB reds and Japanese.

I’m getting back into the game and am really struggling finding anything locally other than Seramas….(don’t get me wrong, I already have two, lol!)

Any ideas on where to find some of these breeds?

I could order from a hatchery but hatch dates are into August for some and I can’t imagine them surviving the heat….anyone had experience with shipping during summer heat? I’m guessing I should avoid it…?

Please let me know. Thanks

I don't have any of the bantam breed's. You also need to watch out where you get them from, as there is a bad bird flu that's been happening in several states. You wouldn't want to be ordering from many of the states right now with that going on.

Welcome to BYC and our state thread!

I've had chicks shipped from New Mexico (Privetts) in July and Iowa (Hoover's) in August. The 25 chicks from Privetts, 1 was dead (trampled). but all others were healthy. Both shipments arrived in 2 days. FYI, as of 2 weeks ago, if you order from Texas (Ideal poultry) my post office up here in Mayer says it's common for "the south" (Texas) to take a third day to arrive, while the birds from "up north" (Iowa) arrive on time (2 days). This is because of all the consolidation of DC's in the USPS recently. All my birds were large fowl though, no bantams.

ETA: this was when I was in Black Canyon City, so they came through Phx DC.

Thanks for the replies.

I’m looking at Ideal right now as they have Silvers shipping next week.

My tentative plan (assuming no issues with bird flu) is to buy a dozen or so and raise them to they’re old enough to sex and then keep what I’d like.

It seems like if they’re this hard to find then maybe others would be interested.

I’d much rather get a known quantity from a good breeder but beggars can’t be choosers I guess.

Good luck, and I hope that bird flu stay's away from AZ.

Last night I candled the 16 eggs in the incubator. Eight of them had veins and looked good. Seven of them had dark areas and I'm not sure. Then there was the one laid by Bulova that I put in the incubator at the last minute because I really wanted to see what sort of patterning she might produce. It was the only clear egg in the batch.
