Arizona Chickens

I'm not ready for 90's. :( I mean, it's expected, but still.
And skin so dry you feel like a hard old brown leaf, dry and bloodshot eyes, nose bleeds, sweaty clothes and shoes and beds, cracked and bleeding skin, cracked and peeling nails, showering twice a day, no makeup, hair only in a bun - no pretty hairstyles, no pretty clothes, no pretty shoes, no nail polish, no perfume, covering up from head to toe every time you leave the house, drinking ice water until you waddle around like a big water balloon, full body spray deodorant, ugly drapey cotton clothes, hot sleepless nights, sore throats, croaky voice, no voice, endless tea tree oil foot soaks, the cost of filters and distilled water and constant cleaning and refilling of humidifiers, sky high electricity bills, acne, eczema, psoriasis, intertrigo, asthma, wheezing, coughing, allergies, sinus headaches, doctor's office visits, endless purchases of hand and body creams and oils, eye gel drops every two hours... 😭🤬😱 April through October is so harsh, I wish I could afford to be a snow bird! I know I'm complaining. I've said my piece so I'll stop now. :duc

Stay indoors when the angry yellow hateball is in the sky :) AZ summer vampires only go out at night.

Hi all!
I use to have an account here years ago but eventually gave up on having chickens so I left.

Now I’m a real grown up with a house and a big yard and everything 😂
We were planning to move to Japan (husband is Japanese) and that’s fallen through so I decided to go out and buy chickens since we’re not going anywhere.

Now I have 3 barred rocks and 1… I forgot the name, something that’s mixed with white leghorn. Thinking I should have gotten an extra since I’m allowed to have 5 in Tempe, and just in case one dies. From what I remember having various poultry as a child, if they’re going to die they usually do it when they’re babies. We shall see.
They’re about 3-4 weeks old based on size and feathers.

Are there still chicken meetups around the phx area? When my son was little (12 years ago maybe) people here on BYC would get together for bbq’s or potlucks and stuff at member’s houses and it was really fun.

Nice to meet you!

Hello, and welcome back! I wasn't a member here 12 year's ago, so I know nothing about the meetups from back then. It sound's like it would have been a fun thing to do. Good luck with your new flock!

Ugh I feel this all on a spiritual level. With my RA meds, I have an allergic reaction to the sun so I have to cover up totally to be outside in it

Welcome back! I hope you enjoy your new babies!

Those meet ups sound like they would have been awesome!

Welcome back! I think meetups sound great, though I'm a bit north of Phx. Maybe the other bird is a California gray, or California white??

I can't believe this is happening--my chicken days are coming to an end.

I bought the hatchery surprise last year because it's something I always wanted to do. I ended up with a lovely 5 hens with colorful eggs. I bought a sapphire assortment this spring to try to keep up with hubs' egg consumption.

But I'm tired of doing everything by myself, and will likely be moving (again!!). So I'm selling my 5 hens (hatched 3/8/22 from Ideal). I'm going to sell the babies in a few days when they're completely weaned off the heat lamp (hatched 2/14/23 from Hoover's TSC).

**ETA** the black one is an ameraucana based olive egger, there's a legbar based green egger, a red sex-link/production red and two barred rocks.**

In case anyone's interested, please PM me. Here are some pics of the hens. I'm thinking $135 for all 5 including the grandpa's feeder or $90 for just the hens.

Sorry that you feel that you need to rehome all of them. I wish you luck, though!
