Arizona Chickens

@springvalley123 I am the only one that takes care of my flock over here. I am also the one that does all of the hatching process. I also do the animal sitting for my next door neighbor's when they need me, and again all by myself. I get all of it done, because I plan my time. I think that I do pretty good with all of this as a senior.

It's not always as simple as "if you plan your time you can do it" I wish it were. Taking care of the flock, building and disassembling and reassembling the runs all by myself, etc, take their toll. And it is hard to plan for the "emergencies" that loved ones come up with, unfortunately.

The older I get the more I understand everybody has different situations to deal with. We all do it the best we can and have to prioritize as we figure out what we can or can't do at any certain time especially with those "emergencies". I don't think you'll have a hard time finding them a home since it is springtime with everyone looking for hens. I hope all goes well!

I can't believe this is happening--my chicken days are coming to an end.

I bought the hatchery surprise last year because it's something I always wanted to do. I ended up with a lovely 5 hens with colorful eggs. I bought a sapphire assortment this spring to try to keep up with hubs' egg consumption.

But I'm tired of doing everything by myself, and will likely be moving (again!!). So I'm selling my 5 hens (hatched 3/8/22 from Ideal). I'm going to sell the babies in a few days when they're completely weaned off the heat lamp (hatched 2/14/23 from Hoover's TSC).

**ETA** the black one is an ameraucana based olive egger, there's a legbar based green egger, a red sex-link/production red and two barred rocks.**

In case anyone's interested, please PM me. Here are some pics of the hens. I'm thinking $135 for all 5 including the grandpa's feeder or $90 for just the hens.
I am so sorry you feel the need to give your babies a new home and can’t take them with you. I hope you can have chicken babies wherever you move to but only because you want them for yourself.

Good luck in your next adventures. ;.;

Hi all!
I use to have an account here years ago but eventually gave up on having chickens so I left.

Now I’m a real grown up with a house and a big yard and everything 😂
We were planning to move to Japan (husband is Japanese) and that’s fallen through so I decided to go out and buy chickens since we’re not going anywhere.

Now I have 3 barred rocks and 1… I forgot the name, something that’s mixed with white leghorn. Thinking I should have gotten an extra since I’m allowed to have 5 in Tempe, and just in case one dies. From what I remember having various poultry as a child, if they’re going to die they usually do it when they’re babies. We shall see.
They’re about 3-4 weeks old based on size and feathers.

Are there still chicken meetups around the phx area? When my son was little (12 years ago maybe) people here on BYC would get together for bbq’s or potlucks and stuff at member’s houses and it was really fun.

Nice to meet you!
Welcome back! I've never heard of chicken meet ups either. They do sound fun though! I'm not in the Phoenix area but you might be able to get something like that going. If anyone in the Tucson areas interested in something like that, let me know!

Question… How do us AZ Desert people best keep our chickens cool June -August?
Shade, lots of fresh water, shallow pan with water and ice for wading in, and small set of misters set far enough away to make sure it doesn't get wet inside of the coop. The coop itself must be well ventilated.
