Arizona Chickens

Let the big chickies out to free range for the first time today. They were not vey adventurous

Then I moved the baby chickes out to the coop in a brooder (inside a big dog cage so they can't get pecked) and before I can string the extension cord out there for a lamp ***BOOOM*** it is raining and thundering. I ended up wrapping a heat pack in a towel, so if they get chilly they can snuggle it.

The free rangers didn't want to go in. I had to institute the Evil Rake.

I have to rehome a light brahma roo myself - it's 12 1/2 weeks old and I'm hoping someone will take him because he'll be a large & beautiful rooster, and not for food. He crowed this morning (didn't wake me, but my girls had fun taping him with their cellphone).

I posted mine on the trade/sell forum here on BYC & on craigslist (no takers yet) - you might want to try that too - maybe someone has welsummer hens that they need a roo for.

You can switch them from chicken laying feed (16% protein) to gamebird laying feed crumbles (20%) - you would just need to make sure you have a side dish of oyster shell for their extra calcium.

Or... mine love scrambled eggs & yogurt.

Bev, you can buy mealworms at Walmart back in the sporting dept. they sell small and large night crawlers, mealworms. I think they are $1.65 a container. Yogurt, cottage cheese are good, mine love scrambled eggs. I had my kids out for there morning free time, when it started to pour down rain, all the girls and Mr. Peep ran to the pen. Willy Boy would not go in. I tried several times to get him in and he just ran away. Usually he goes right in. so I let him stay in it. He looked like a drowned rat. I took some pic. of him, I hope they turn out. He wanted a shower after all this heat. It seemed liked it. Silly boy! When the rain would let up or stop he would call all the girls back out. They had a really good time pecking and scratching. They were funny to watch.

I know this is a chicken forum and all but I have a problem and I am looking to the good people here first before I turn to any of my other options. Earlier this month some of you may have read where I posted about a man throwing kittens out his car window while driving down Thunderbird. Yes for those that don't know this man was tossing baby kittens out his car window while driving about 50mph down Thunderbird. My husband was driving behind him and was horrified at the sight of this. Hubby pulled up next to the man at the intersection and yelled to him at which time the man hit my husband with a kitten but not before the kitten did a face plant into the door jam of the truck. Bloody face and claws extended this kitten VERY LITTLE KITTEN latched into my husband's crotch and held on for dear life as they all struggled to stay in the lane. Well I don't know what happened to the man or the other 15 or so kitties but this one has made it. It has quite a bit of siamese (sp?) in it and looks to be approx. 8 weeks old give or take. It has finally come around to my husband and loves to play with you but does not want you to play with it. It does not bite and does very well with the litter box. Not one time has it messed the house. So now I have nursed this little cat back to health but I am here because I just can't keep it. I have two cats, a chihuahua, a waterdog and about 200 chickens(at the moment), and a family to care for. I am stretched to the max!! BUT I am not giving up on this little guy after all he has overcome some very horrible ordeals. This kitty was not flea infested and in fact I can't find any on him and he seems to have been fed well while in his previous place. Why on earth this person did this is beyond me. I know there are some really kind souls on this forum and I would really feel like the kitty went to a great place if it were to be taken in by someone from here. Please if anyone that reads this is interested or knows someone that is interested please please PM or email me. I don't want to come to your home and inspect or make random visits. The kitty is completely free. I just want someone to love him. It is a male kitty with siamese markings and personality. Thank you all for taking the time to read through this and God Bless.

Hi guys! (and gals!!!) I have ordered a shipment of 120 XLD Jumbo Coturnix and 120 Texas A&M eggs. Are any of you interested in splitting this order? They are $0.20 each egg, so a super great deal that I would be happy to share with you guys! Just PM me if you are interested.

Thanks,
Chrystal

Pati you can get that at the stock shop on 67th ave and thunder bird. Just about all the feed stores carry it. It don't come in a bale actually but rather in a compressed block that is wrapped in plastic. It is horse bedding.

Good morning Arizona, thank you ALL who answered my plea for help. I now know what I am looking for and where to find it. Can I fit a bale in the trunk of a car? MY trunk goes straight through, I can fold the backseat flat. 08 Honda Civic.

I would think so. I had a 2000 honda civic (4-door) that I used to move during college 10-15 times (I was an RA). I was able to get large TVs and whole desks in there... If nothing else, take a red rag and a bungee cord. That way, if it sticks out, you can just flag it.

You should also be able to get one "sitting" in the front seat or laying across the back seat. Messy, but nothing that cant be cured with a blanket.
