I need to take another pic because he just keeps getting bigger and now his tail feathers are finally starting to grow.

I know he's getting bigger because he hit his mark on one of my big Delaware hens this afternoon.

Mahroni - Beautiful chickens - you are lucky to have true ameraucanas. My hen probably won't go broody again till next spring - I hope you will still have eggs available then.

I'm gettting a bit anxious - My 16 year old daughter will be having orthognathic surgery on her lower jaw Dec. 21. She's seeing a very experienced surgeon (Dr. Day). I just keep thinking about it and the recovery and the fact that it is right before Christmas. She wants it done ASAP and didn't want to wait till after New Years (wants those braces off).

Wow! it got cold last night. I had 30 degrees, it is just 45 now. I still have ice on the water outside. The Wee ones were so cute, trying to peck the ice. I did get 4 eggs already this morning.

I think I will stay in the house and have another cup of coffee. Hope it warms up soon, I have outside chores to get done.

That's exactly what my orthodontist said about Dr. Day. My ortho, Dr. Sabatino, doesn't want us to go in network for surgery because of the risks (although we still don't know if our insurance will cover this) - Dr. Day & Dr. Gassman were the only two surgeons he would recommend to us.

Dr. Day only does surgeries on Mondays. We originally had the surgery scheduled for January 4th because all the Mondays in December were booked, but when they came up with an opening on Dec. 21, we went ahead and took it (it was her choice). It does give her more time to recuperate before school and there's a church camp she wants to go to in the middle of January. We're going to have our Christmas dinner the weekend before Christmas and do all the baking, etc, early also - hopefully, she/we don't regret it.

Note to self: Never attempt to take large fowl eggs away from a broody bantam no matter what!!!

It does not matter to her that the eggs are not fertile and that they have only been there one day. Everyday for a week I have had to fight her beak and claw for my daily ration. Today she decided I wasn't getting them no matter what. She won my hand lost. I will let her sit on them until it warms up later today. What ever makes her clucker cluck I guess

It is amazing how they double in size when you make them angry LOL

Our 9 1/2 week old babies are in a separate chainlink covered dog run (6' x6' & 4 ft. high) that is protected by a block wall on one side and a shed on the other. We placed comforters over the top & the other two sides (left the gate section uncovered) for the last 2 nights and turned the heat lamp back on for them - after seeing the frozen dog dish, I'm glad we did.

Well... all my extras are gone now - the bully hen and a buddy went to a nice home where she will be put back in her place by the new flock. No more silkies & frizzle (kind of sad -they were so cute).
We're down to:
Original flock of hens - 2 barred rocks, 3 EEs, 1 RIR (think's she's a rooster), 2 barnevelders (one's a freeloader), & 1 black star
Younger pullets that live with the older flock (3 are laying now) - 2 EES, 1 BR, 1 BA
Babies -- 1 LB, 1 BO, & 6 EE babies

good morning everyone, i'm wondering if anyone is inerested in those black oriental game hens i have. they are getting to be way to vocal for my back yard - I'm going to get caught if I don't get rid of them. Email me if you want them. 5 bucks each.
