You do have to be careful on CL.
I ran into someone "lying" on CL. I was looking for a fresh, organic egg supply until mine start laying and contacted someone on CL.
In his ad he said his eggs were organic, but when I questioned him about the feed he used, he said he used Layena.
He also said he never let his chickens out because he didn't want them eating "any old bug".

If anyone in the Gilbert/Mesa area has extra organic eggs please PM me.

Carol- I went to your webpage. The picture of the kids with their first egg TOTALLY made my day. My 15 month old helped me collect the eggs yesterday. I have a little basket with a red bandana in it, which he will put the eggs in, pick them up, change hands, then put the eggs back in. Unfortunately, he shooed the little broody OEGB off her nest (for a few minutes) and when I pulled him out of the coop, he went into full-tempertantrum mode. He REALLY wanted those broody's eggs.

*sniff* my little baby is growing up and becoming a toddler.

20 minutes of drama over eggs! 20! It wouldn't have been a big deal, but I went home with a migrane yesterday. So, I was really not at my best.

EDITED: Becky- How many steps of organic are you looking for? For example: I use the feed at Western Ranchman, and it is not medicated, they free range and get garden scraps, but I feed them leftovers from us--- so they are getting non-organic foods.

I will ask around, I just need to know what you would prefer

speaking of organic eggs, i'm interested in making a bulk order of feed... just because it's cheaper. would anyone want in on it? or does anyone have any suggestions on where to get it in the valley? i haven't found any organic feed on my side of town.

How will you keep the bugs out? Even with DE I still occasionally get weevils. I bet it has more to do with the age of the food than me, but you know what I mean.

Thanks for the recipie, Cheerfulheart. . . looks good. I don't have a breadmaker, but can probably adapt it to the "old fashioned" method. . . crock bowls and wooden spoons are staples in my kitchen. I will try it. . . and by the way, I always do "whole wheat", bleached flour is a no no in my kitchen.
