Arizona Chickens

5 of my 6 demand attention, too. The one that doesn't is, I think part leghorn. . .they are pretty standoffish. Even when the new coop was being built, they were constantly underfoot of my cousins. . .fortunatly both "farm raised" and used to critters pestering them. Hand feeding was the biggest factor in that, I think. My friendliest, now, is my new black Ameracauna. . . she LOVES me, comes running and begging to be petted and picked up whenever she sees me. Blows me away. . . the two I raised from day old chicks are not that friendly, although they will jump on me and are not the least bit afraid.

This cracks me up. So what will he say when he learns he is now part owner or a new flock of tukeys? The weather is great. I am loving it. Good luck with the cow.

Cheerful- I suspect it will be something like, "Where did those turkeys come from?" followed by a grumble, a pout, and then a "By the way, I bought that new rifle/truck/electronic doodad you said not to."

speaking of "tweety bird proofing" the coop. . . .I am still getting sparrows and an occasional dove inside, through the "chicken door". . . .so. . . I hung a piece of netting over the door. . . took about 3 days for the chooks to learn to use it, but now they just go in and out like it's not there. Thought that would solve the problem, but if a chook or breeze leaves it open for a minute or two, a lucky sparrow still manages to enter. Anyone else have this problem, and more importantly, a way to solve it? Thanks

What about a magnet weight? Like for wiener-dog doors?

I know that I am kind teasing my husband..he really is a great guy. The birds are my job, he is usually in just shipping, receiving, building and butchering. I have been getting into the shipping part, I went and got them all by myself...but this weekend he will be doing some shipping for me...hopefully he is going to Lorre's house, to get me a few things and maybe drop something off.

Also,I have been building...yesterday I made a new chicken run, just needs the net on the roof and to make sure it is all attached well. Also, I built a pen for the new lamb..she is to small for the big pen with the cow she would get out..it is almost done too. So by the end of today...I should have those two things done

I like magnet weight idea, I might just need to use it

Oh my.

well the 9 yr old was feeding and watering the chickens with me today....and he knows they are there, I wonder if he is going to tell his dad.

All the adult birds are about 650 ft from the house....if you walk from the front door to them in a straight line....so it will all depend if he uses the road to turn around or...here is a picture taken from the front door, the truck in the picture is 1/2 way down to the chickens

He's a smart cookie. I'll bet he already knows.... and is just smiling...

I have to echo this. I always have that weird feeling that my wife already knows things, she probably knows I typing about her right now. It's kinda like mom always knowing.
