Our chicks have hatched. We had 6 eggs and 3 babies. One egg was not fertile, 2 were odd shaped and didnt hatch, 1 Silkie hatched and has a little bit of a belly issue (it seems to be doing really good so we'll see how it turns out) and 1 other silkie hatched and is cute as can be and the third hatchling is a mystery chick. They are all cuter than snot bubbles! I think I had some humidity issues so I will be getting a new hydrometer before I try hatching again. I am assuming humidity was what caused the belly problem with the little silkie.

I really like your eggs...I hope that you find a home for them....I probably would be right over for more if I didn't live so far away.
I have the humidity problems figured out...I guess I had problems that I didn't know about until last week. It was only affecting eggs that weren't mine, it didn't matter if I got them local or picked them up in Phx..only that it wasn't a problem with my eggs. So it took a bit to figure that I had a problem with just one incubator with other peoples eggs....need to test it out again

Actually my MIL is going to be down on Sat...do I ask her to get stuff for me?

Though I was born elsewhere, my roots sink deep into the desert. Both of my parents and three of my grandparents were born in Arizona. At least one of my great grandparents came as a young boy.

OK FOLKS-- it is that time again.

I have a number of boys going to the soup pot within the next week or two. Up for grabs is:

My EE -Sweetcheeks (I love him, he is my pet, but....) Older pic. Hatched 9/25/09. His comb & beard are quite impressive now. I would prefer to re-home him, if possible.


An FCBM cockerel--also an old pic. Lap chicken. Lots of red on him now. (you win Mahonri)


Two Australorp cockerels- Hatched 12/7/09. Both have some pretty red & green bleeding through. Big, jaunty tails.


The Aloha cockerel in the back- Hatched 1/1/10. He'd be a smaller bird, likes to be held. LONG tail, very striking.

Aloha cockerel. He's about 4 weeks old now, and is 100% blue/white/splash. No brown, darn it!

I need to move so I can keep more roosters! Got to find homes for the ones I already have. Although hubby hasnt said much since they are still here, keeping fingers crossed he didnt really mean what he said "got to get rid of all the roos" I only have a couple.

Glad to know I am in good "native" company!! People are mostly shocked to hear it! Especially up here, near Anthem, where everyone is a transplant.

Noskiveez - congrats on the babies!! Pics? I had belly issues in my last hatch. Hoping for better bellies this time.

Lockdown is tomorrow!! I have 7 developed eggs in my incubator and quite a few quitters. Hopefully the broody is doing better than I am. Expecting chickies on Monday evening!

Mahonri - the W/BWA eggs are all doing great! There have been 3 that got broken and one that quit, but the rest are great! At last candle, both the Polish/WA were developing great and are under the broody! All but one of the GCMs have quit. Two of the bonus eggs are doing well- the CQ's and Faverolle's eggs.

The shipped eggs (FBCM and Wellies) are very dark, but the ones I can see into have broken air cells. I am pretty sure that some of them are developing anyway. Just too dark to know for sure. I gave the darkest ones to the broody.

So, the plan is to have a wonderful Wheaten Ameraucana rooster over Wheaten Am and dark egg laying hens. Next spring, when Penny goes broody again, she will hatch me some olive eggers! Yay!
