Arizona Chickens

Yes, probably is. . . very pretty flower, but I would not let anyone eat on that plant. The first pic you sent didn't look like nightshade, the leaves are quite distinctive, but you have seen the plant. The nightshades are just getting started now. I've been spraying them with roundup. . . I sure don't like dealing with them when they get big.

I know that weed. Don't try to pull it; use the hoe on it. Those spines are wicked.

No kidding! The hula-hoe only works so well...stupid plants are insidious. The worst is when they sneak into my garden, in a clump of grass or whatever, and then I just grab the whole bunch to pull and OOOUCHHH!

Off to Chicago tomorrow. Anyone need me to bring something back? A pizza? A chicken?

Shaun, so sorry. That is heartbreaking.

Mahonri - up here it is the brittlebush. That is what is making the mountains yellow.

My doctor suggested I make a tea from the leaves and flowers of the brittlebush to help with seasonal allergies and drink a few times a day. I have not tried it. Probably will today as it is finally getting bad for me, too. Most of the desert hasn't even bloomed yet. The mesquites are starting now, then the palo verdes. My sweet acacias are in full bloom now.

My allergies have gotten a lot better over the last 2 years since we started using raw local honey. Its like a little innoculation in every spoonful.

While cleaning the coop this morning a patient came by to buy some eggs and take a sack of chicken poop home to compost.

His wife saw pics of chickens on my computers at work and has been begging him to get some chickens.

Lawn King couldn't fix our lawn mower... actually they could have for $250 (the power drive transmission was shot)... shucks I'm just going to buy a new mower.

Got the back lawn mowed, took a dip in the pool... VERY refreshing and now it's time for a nap... then I have to finish cutting the egg cartons I'm going to use for lockdown.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Shaun, sorry to hear about your dog. I know how you feel.

Mahonri - its always fun when someone can be converted to get chickens

Well, I located where the squirrel was coming in and out of the yard. We have some big logs along the fence in the corner. So I moved all the logs (with the help of the chickens of coarse) and started digging and turning the dirt to fill in all the tunnels. I was close to getting done when all of a sudden something shot out of the ground between my feet and went flying out of the pen area. I let out a scream... totally freatked me out, until I realized it was that darn squirrel.

Needless to say, I hope that he wont be back.
