Arizona Chickens

Well- I am in Chicago now. My hotel is nice, but kinda boring. DAARK. How will I sleep without the neighborhood roos crowing at all hous or teo Pinwheels of Death kicking me in the back of my head?

I left a list of "Chicken To-dos" for the DH. Nothing terrible, but I better make sure I bring him back something nice!

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for the warm welcomes and new chick-mom advice! They are growing like crazy and we've been taking them outside for short stretches in a little pen before taking them back inside to their warm little home. They like to explore but tend to stay pretty close to me while we're outside.

I will post some pics - we're not sure what we have 2 Bantams, one of which I am pretty sure is probably a rooster, which makes me sad because we can't keep him in the city. AND HE IS SOOOOO CUTE!

) Anyone want to provide a good home to a Bantam rooster if that's what he turns out to be???

I think the other 2 may be a New Hampshire and a Black/gold Wyandotte (sp??) I really don't know. Would love to find out, if any of you can help!

Does anyone know what the Bantams might be, too? I am so new to all of this that I hope I'm not asking too stupid of questions.

thanks again!

PS. Hmm.....I can't figure out how to attach pictures right now...will try it after some research tomorrow, when I am more awake!

I am something. My BFF happens to live here, stayed at my hotel last night, and she has no children. SO...I have been awake (toddler time) for HOURS, trying not to wake her up. Typing quietly....

Did you see my pic above?

Hi folks,

Here are some pictures (thanks Laree!) I probably uploaded these a couple of times before realizing I had to copy the link for each picture!

whoops! I also copied over the 'thumbnail' link instead of the 'picture' link. Hopefully that was correct!

Thanks again, and any suggestions or chick ID is always welcome!!

Well I have nothing to offer on what you have there, but the last pic of the chick in mid peep is great! There must be somewhere on here you can submit that. Crop it to just that chick and maybe submit it to pic of the week or something. Love it.

So sorry Shaun I hope this helps you as it has me in the past.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Well it should be interesting to see how many chicks I get...

With what some of the rest of you have been getting, I'm thinking I'll get no more than 50 chicks. Last hatch I got 41 of 48 to hatch at lockdown. If I got the same percentage this time, I'd have 58... so anywhere between 45 and 58 and I'll call it a success. I am officially in Lock down. Let's bore you to death with stats!!
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A total of 26 out of the 95 eggs have been removed. 69 remain at lockdown.

28 eggs from Peachick (Kathy) at first candle 23 eggs remained, at Lockdown 22 eggs remain! (Shipped from MD)

34 eggs from Wayne Meredith at first candle 31 eggs remained, at Lockdown 28 eggs remain! (shipped from WI)

18 eggs from pasofinofarm (Melissa) at first candle 11 eggs remained, at Lockdown 9 eggs remain. (shipped from TX)
My eggs
1 GC Maran (should be pure) 1 remains at LD
3 BWA X BBL Polish (Policauna.. ) 3 remain at LD
3 BWA X Salmon Faverolle (Salwheatenacauna ) 1 egg remains... at lockdown
1 BWA X Black Star . Still there! at lockdown
7 BWA X W/BWA from my coop. 4 remain at lockdown... to be fair one cracked when the therm/hygrom. fell on it, it died between day 10 and day 18

So 6 more were removed at day 18.

95 eggs total ---- 75 total eggs at first candle 69 eggs still there at Lockdown

Hi all!

I spent some time this afternoon catching crickets, roaches (ugh) and some pillbugs for the chicks. Wow did they love the bugs!!

Here are a couple more pix.....

Isn't he handsome?! Looks like he knows it, too - even though he is a wee little guy!

this one reminds me of the 'angry bluebird' photo. I *think* this one is the gold laced wyandotte......

Thanks I need it. I just did the math... If I get 50 chicks, they cost me over $3.80 a piece + electricity...

BUT, they are high quality from great breeders.
