Arizona Chickens

Tofu- You CAN get your username changed, just PM a moderator and ask nicely. Terrilacey is your best bet.

As for the stained glass thing, I am going to kind of muddle my way through the first few batches. There are a bunch of techniques out there, as well as media to "secure" the glass. I am not bothering with the metal & welding---I'll probably just keep the spaces small & grout or use the clear apoxy we used for our countertops. Google "indirect method mosaic" & you'll see.

Nessa: Good for you!

Joel: That is sort of my reaction to Greenfire Farms site, pretty chickens but........wow, the prices.

Of course, now that my roo is starting to do his roo-ly duty, I don't need to even think of buying chicks. Or at least I keep telling myself that. I was looking at My Pet Chicken yesterday, and they have a pullet assortment and a Leghorn assortment, 25 chicks for $47, including shipping. But I do not need any new chickens. And if I do, I can just hatch my own eggs.

It is worth the effort and agony.

Hubby & I quit 5+ years ago. I was smoking 1 to 1-1/2 packs a day and he was smoking 4 to 5 packs a day (every day.) We saved ALOT of money and that was what encouraged him not to restart. Especially after I used the saved money to pay cash for his pretty 1 ton pickup.

You are going to feel so good. Not smoking and exercising!!

CONGRATULATIONS

ArizonaNessa~ Just wanted to say GOOD JOB and keep up the good work! Just got home from work and have not had time to catch up on all the posts yet but yours caught my eye

Just watched the Suns tragedy.

Way to go Vanessa!

Long horrid day at work. I won't go into the details. It started with one of the hard drives on my server going down.

Back still hurts.

One of my FBCMs laid their first egg today!!! Nice and dark!

I'm going to scramble it so that I can see if it's fertile.

Glad you are getting better Laree. Maybe I should have lunch at Bakers too, I enjoy comedy.

Today a patient was talking about death and I was telling her that there is only one thing that I want to hear people say as they walk by my coffin.

"Look he's moving!"

Vanessa - That's great - you've started walking and now added another thing that will add years to your life and help you keep up with your son. I'm rooting for you.

Laree - Somehow I missed what you did to your hand, but I do hope it heals quickly and the pain dissappears soon.

Mahonri - That was funny that you ran into my DH while he was dropping off the roosters - your chickens' offspring. I had given him a list of their breeds to give to the Stock Shop employees in hopes that the roosters would be labeled correctly and not sold as meat chickens. The employees were not impressed, but when I went back today and checked - all 5 Ameraucanas were already rehomed - they were quite beautiful and distinct - I hope someone realizes what they've got. I'm sorry you're not feeling well and hope you get better soon.

My hens have also slowed way down in their egg production - I'm getting about 7 eggs per day from my 17 laying hens (21 - adult hens, but 4 are broody or recovering broodies).

RRR - Good luck with the job search - I know sometimes it gets discouraging, but once you find the perfect job for you, it'll all have been worthwhile.

here at my house - I can't believe I have yet another broody - the dark blue Ameraucana is broody AGAIN - her chicks are only 6 weeks old. She abandoned the chicks at about 4 weeks of age (well, gave them over to the other broody), laid eggs for about 2 weeks and is once again setting on her nest day and night, hoping to hatch more eggs. In the last 2 months, both barnevelders and my black australorp have each gone broody and my dark blue ameraucana has done it twice now - something is definitely in the air.

Looks like I gave up that dark blue Ameraucana too soon!

Do you have hatching eggs? I could start saving some for you....

Got my first FBCM egg today!!!! still haven't checked to see if it's fertile... but it was very tiny so probably not.

Good morning everyone!

AZDC- I feel your pain. Dozer went full-broody again, so I gave her some Aloha pullet eggs to try. Caged her up, gave her water and extra food, and haven't messed with her since. Then the other OEGB decided to start sitting on golfballs. Viola (the OEGB) is breakable, so I have been tossing her out.

Gummy Bear - funny.
Lost rope/horse - good one.

FBCM - had to look that up AGAIN. Mohonri - what is special about French Black Copper Marans. Are they the ones that lay super dark eggs?

Broody Hens - Oh, yeah. I know all about broody hens. Last year I tried to let them get over it...that did not work. By the time I "broke" them, they had almost no combs. I was very sad to realize I should have taken better care of them. The first post in this thread has helped me: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3028739. Though I don't put them in a wire bottom cage, I just lock them away from their nest and 2-3 days later they are over it.

Egg Production - I wonder why it is down. Could it be they are adjusting to changes in weather?

Mohonri - how do you tell from "scrambling" if it is fertile?

Tucson Tofu - I, of course, like the new name. (and a little pleased to help you find it)
