Arizona Chickens

New crowers are the funniest things. It is sooo cute, but sooooo obnoxious. I had one who, everytime he'd crow he'd choke.

"ROO RA Rok"

It was hilarious because everyone in the backyard would subconciously clear their throats. *ahem*

ETA: If you want to know who it is, go out there and crow at them. When you walk away, he'll pipe up again.

Ooo!! Can't wait to try that!! DH went outside and tried to make him crow, but who knows what he did because it didn't work. Then he came back in and Googled it, only to find about a million results on how to STOP a roo from crowing

This is why I love this forum!

Hey Laree.... here is the Aloha Project roos that I have. They are ready for their new homes so I need to know which ones you and Sommer want to keep.

Kahili and Ipo are big possibilites but I dont know. Here are some pics.

Here is Ipo (tall and leggy) mottled

Here is Kahili (barring and mottling on this one) really pretty and the feathers on his chest are really cool, they are white outlined in tannish/red. The dark feathers seem blue. He has 1 tail feather that is blue with a black stripe running the length of it. (and the black is purple and green)

Here is Kingsley (Available - ready for a new home)

Young Roo (has barring on his feathers, Kahili look alike - minus all the white) Available - ready for a new home)

Also if Laree and Sommer decide they dont want these roos for the Aloha Project they will be available.

His feathers seem more bluish than black. So that's a plus. And he has mottling going for him. Hopefully he will fill out though and not be some skinny chicken.

I think a lot of us are in the red, especially when hens aren't laying, eggs aren't hatching, etc. ... I clearly remember reading that keeping chickens is NOT a money saver ... boy, were they right!!

But "they" also said it was incredibly fun and rewarding, and "they" were also right!

Mine got it awhile back (only 4 of them came down with it, out of 15) I just let it run its coarse. They only got the dry pox, thank goodness.
ETA: I didnt vaccinate any of them.

My main concern is that I have 3.5 week old babies and a bunch about to hatch.

Yeah I would be concerned to. I know that it runs its coarse and that you would need to keep them seperated. I am not sure where to get the vaccine. I searched Fowl Pox here on BYC and found some pretty good threads on the subject.
