Arizona Chickens

Well my 2nd broody has taken to Noskiveez three little chicks like the best mamma on earth. And they are so gorgeous. I need more land! I've got to sell some year old pullets soon!

And now, my salmon faverolle has gone broody and won't get out of the nest... All she has is 4 golf balls under her. Anyone got eggs in the bator? I'd love to put some little polish chicks under her. Doesn't she know it hit 118 here today? Without the AC I'd have a bunch of dead hens and it really isn't cooling that much but it's enough to keep them alive.

Sorry for the losses... I have a friend in Laveen who lost 3 hens yesterday to the heat.

The rooster came back to life! He is sitting up but not standing... he kind of topples over. I couldn't get him to drink anything on his own, and I don't have the poultry electrolyte or vitamin mix. I gave him 10ml of
http://jointjuice.com/jointjuice-performancewater.jsp with a needle-less syringe. Think that's okay?

Congrats on the chicks/momma hen Mahonri.

Sorry about everyone else who lost a chicken.

PS: The Joint Juice tastes TERRIBLE.

I'm sorry to hear about the lost chickens elsewhere, too. I am so worried about ours....I'm not even in the state so I can't look after them, it's up to my honey. They seem to be doing OK but I'm still very worried

Everyone stay safe and cool over this holiday weekend!

Maybe we could call it beetlesinboxesthatwontgetiton.com

I hope they start reproducing....I spent a lot of time cleaning out nasty worm/pupae/beetle containers

and just giving up would be really frustrating....

The rooster still wouldn't drink, so I went and got the needle-less syringe again and he got excited and voluntarily opened his mouth for it. He just wants to be spoiled! Now he is snoozing on my lap

I think he'll be fine.

On the topic of roosters (and getting it on), when do they stop trying to rape the ladies and start being gentlemen? He even steals treats from the pullets. Is he permanently going to be a jerk?

Tucson Tofu-- I am glad your roo is bouncing back:D Please keep us posted.

I was thinking about getting some Old English Game Bantom Hens for my spare roos, Lenny and Squiggy. Does anyone know where I might get some locally in a couple of months? ( That is when I should be done with the next coop and run.)

I had to let my 1st one cry it out in order for him to sleep in his own room, when he was little. It took 3 nights and just about killed me! However, by the 4th night he was good. Never had a problem since then and now he is 18 yrs, lol.

Good luck and be tough, even if you have to put a pillow over your head! It will be worth it.

I belong to a poultry club in Tucson, so when you are ready, I can probably find a few breeders who may have some. And if you don't need show quality, you can probably get them cheaper. Let me know when you are ready.

Well, it is dark and it is still hot out there. I try to wait until it is getting dark before I water the plants and collect the eggs. The kids think we are in a bad neighborhood, so they installed flood lights that light the place up like a used car lot.

I have two more stupid hens trying to hatch the golf balls. They are so mean, they keep the other hens out of the nests. So now they are laying all over the place.

A couple of days ago, I found five eggs and laid them on top of the coop. Then I went off to water the apricot trees. When I got back there were only three eggs on top of the coop. Hmmm. I was beginning to doubt myself. I am getting old and kind of feeble minded maybe.

Well, it happened again tonight. Two eggs went missing when I went off to water the trees. It has to be those darn alley cats or maybe an owl. I will stake the eggs out until I find out who or what is taking them. My money is on those darn alley cats, a homeless person would have taken all five eggs.

Mahorni, how cool does it get in that coop with the air on? I see they have those little air conditioners on sale at Home Depot.

My chickens have to tough it out hiding under the shade of the citrus trees. They make a terrible mess under there, but so far thay haven't damaged the trees.
