Arizona Chickens

Burke is fantastic! I;m not familiar with a Longmaster, but there is a vet in Scottsdale named Langhofer who is so-so (my opinion, but I know of others who love him. Maybe I'm spoiled with Dr Burke.) Found this list: http://www.petparrot.com/AvianVets.htm I know of Driggers, but none of the others. Be aware that some avian vets refuse to see chickens.

Idiots!

I found it amusing that the vet who decrows rooster is named Dr. Babcock - don't know if he's still around though. I do remember reading that he's the only vet in the U.S. that does that procedure.

First thing asked when I called Burke's office is if they treat chickens. I know what you mean - how silly, there are plenty of pet chickens (Sultans have no other redeeming qualities and they didn't when the Ottomans kept them as pets). A bird is a bird and chickens are birds. Hopefully with all this backyard chickenry (and house Seramas), more avian vets will get their act together!

Try Palo Verde ( Dr babcock) or Palm Glen.

Hope I'm in the right forum for this, since I need a chick vet ASAP. My 6 1/2 week-old Sultan is crossed-beak

and I wanted to know if anyone knows a good avian/chicken vet that won't just trim the beak, but will also show me how to do it. I can't afford to take her in every 2 weeks... I'm on the east side (mid-Scottsdale). Dr. Longmaster is who'll I'll be seeing on Tuesday (he works with Daniel Burke who's supposed to be good with parrots and whatnot, but Burke is unavailable.) If anyone knows a vet that's good at this and will teach me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Meredith

My vet is Dr. Burke. He's great. I haven't been thrilled with the other vets at his office. I do like Dr. Driggers too. I saw him once for my rat when Dr. Burke was unavailable.

Just wanted to thank everyone who responded. Langhofer is waaaay closer, but I've heard nothing but good things about Burke - just hoping that Longmaster is good at beak trimming on such a small chick.

Thanks,
Meredith

Burke has his own flock of chickens

Two eggs kicked out of the nest this morning. One was an Ameraucana egg from Mahonri, I broke it open and it appears to have quit about Day 9. The other was a WA X Blue Andalusian, in this case the shell was completely smashed. The chick looked fully developed, but the yolk hadn't fully absorbed and it was dead. She's still sitting on twelve, so there is still a chance of a good hatch. I'm trying not to get discouraged. Given the weather, the fact that this is a first time broody, and that the eggs weren't all stored under ideal conditions a couple of late losses isn't a bad result. I'm trying to take some comfort in the fact that the chicks didn't appear to be shrinkwrapped, and this is out of my hands anyway.

My two previous broodies with their chicks.

Here are the three chicks w/ mamma that I got from Noskiveez. all EEs appears one is a roo w/ two little pullets.. I don't know the other light one might also be a roo.

Here is my first broody with her six chicks.. she had 7... the Light colored EE roo jumped into the pool and drowned :0(

She has three RIR... one of which was mis sexed and appears to be a roo. One EE from Pratts, then the black/blue one is a BWA X BSL
and the light one is a BWA X Cinnamon Queen

here is the BWA X BSL again. do you think the two crosses from my BWA roo are both pullets?

My other broody has been on the nest for at least three weeks... can't wait to see what I get from AZKat next week.
