Did your missing hens ever reappear? If not, the thieves will be back. They never let go of a good thing.

If you put a lock on the coop, you force them to break in, and that is a more serious offense. But if they never get caught it doesn't matter. Still, lock the thing up.

Mahonri-The BWA X BSL and the BWA X Cinnamon Queen both look like pullets to me. Getting you two or three chicks for your broody shouldn't be a problem, as mine is still sitting on a dozen eggs. When you come over, you'll have to get a look at the WA X Blue Andalusian pullet that hatched almost three months ago. She's big enough to get an idea of what she'll look like as an adult, and she's a very pretty girl. Another egg from that cross is one of the ones that is going to hatch on Monday, and I'm curious to see if they look similar.

If you can't hang it or raise it, then try to cover the food tray with a wire mesh so that they can just get their beak in to eat. Small gage chicken wire or 1/2 inch hardware cloth. Something like that.

They can waste a lot of food that way.

We have suspected an egg eater as we have only been getting eggs from one of the 5 chickens who CAN lay. But yesterday we got 5 eggs! I think one was from the previous day cause the broody isn't laying. I need to get her a chick.

AZ Kat... I won't be needing the chicks. We got some at the feed store and she won't take them!

So now I've got to be broody pappa to a speckled sussex, a buff orpington, a cinnamon queen and a Dominique.

If anyone has any Adult/full size roosters they would like to get rid of, please let me know what you have and how much you want for it. (FYI-He will be eaten). A woman who comes to hubbys work (Tempe) wants grown roosters for eating. So PM me your phone number, and asking price.

Picked up some chicks at the feed store today - two barred rocks, two americaunas, and one red something (can't remember).

They told me the best thing to do would be to keep them outside, but I'm not so sure with the weather being so hot during the day and still dropping into the 80's at night...not to mention the random winds. What do you guys think? Should I keep them out (they're in a rubbermaid container with a screen cover under the covered patio) or bring them in and put a heat lamp on them? I'm the Phoenix area.
