The white one is quite spunky. The tricolor one is more mellow. One of my younger daughters thinks a goat is saying "maaaaam" when it makes noise and she does the sign language sign for mom when she hears it.​

Today my flock reduced in numbers by 7, and best part is that it was all roosters. They went to a soup pot home. My easter Egger rooster is no longer having to be confined out of risk he's going to hurt someone. My husband was sad to see him go. Not I! I still have a lot of hens to find homes for still.

NoSkiveez and RioLindo, thanks for the advice about the SQ silkies. I was getting a little worried. Of course, I should have known. The same lady was trying to sell books about silkies for $95 each. They weren't college text books, either. I can't help but wonder who in the world would buy something like that. I know dogs go for a lot of money, but chickens? I still don't pay that much for dogs. We have 2 mutts from the pound. We also have a Belgian Malinois, and they usually run about $3000 since they come from Germany. But, he's a retired drug sniffing US Customs officer. We got him for free. We just have to put up with his neurotic habits. It's not that hard since he is amazing with the kids.

NoSkiveez, your goats are soooooo cute! I have been begging my husband to let me have some of those for a few years. You would think he would be on board since we go through about 10 gallons of milk a week on a slow week, but it is a no go so far. I will have to live vicariously through you. My 2nd daughter would be in heaven bottle feeding baby goats!

Bob, dang! I am so sorry about losing your birds. I never knew mites could do that. Nasty critters! You have me all paranoid now. I guess we are experiencing our first molt. One of my hens has only 1 pitiful looking tail feather left. After reading this, I was convinced she had mites, but she looked good upon inspection. I hope you get everything back under control very soon!

And while I'm thinking about it, out of 34 eggs, 1 was questionable if it was going to hatch, 7 left to go (2 have pips. Unfortunately a lot of the late bloomers are BWA. I've got two hatched so far, and hopefully for the rest.

ETA Also, my defective hen laid a nice, dark brown, round as a ball, egg. I'm definitely glad. I hope it stays like that.

5pinkarrows, I had no idea either! NoSkiveez told me to look for them. I was convinced they had contracted Marek's Disease. After dusting them thoroughly with DE it seems to subsided. 5 in sick bay seem to have made a full recovery, and I think a total of 5 died, 3 were in sick bay, and 2 were still out in the swingset. They really died suddenly. I don't know if there was anything else going on, I gave them Tylosin injections when I put them in sick bay, but that wouldn't do anything for Marek's, so I have to assume it was the mites. Their legs were stiff, couldn't move, couldn't stand, labored breathing. Pretty bad stuff.

goats. Raised nubians, and when they were purchased at a few days old they'd still recieve the occasional bottle well past typical weaning age. Always dreaded feet trimming time, yet bottle feeding around the clock was never tiresome, lol. Sweet babies you have there.

NoSkiveez, reduce, reuse, recycle, right? This is my new brooder/juvenile coop. Can't decide what to call it. An old 15 foot above ground pool I wanted to use as a raised bed garden, but the field mice ate holes in it, draped over a trampoline, vent holes cut in the top with extra nylon screen I had siliconed over them to keep the birds out, a barrel with a tire on top to hold up the middle, one 250 watt light they probably don't need anymore, but taking no chances, two waterers, one 25 lb. feeder, and the top half of a large size dog carrier in case they want to climb on or huddle inside.

Oh, And I put 1 lb of Sevin down, plus a one gallon bucket of DE all over the ground before adding the chicks. Dont' want the bugs taking up residence.
The metal grills are hail guards from old a/c's, the one on top is just sitting there, so I can open it and give them feed, the one in the side is for getting in and refilling their water.

VERY creative! I love it! But if I did that, my husband would kill me. LOL!​
