Arizona Chickens

Eggxactly. I don't have flood irrigation, but my hens like playing in the water when I am watering. Not several inches deep, but they like pecking at the ground when it has water on it. They DO like their dust baths, so try to keep a 'dust box' type area for them that will stay dry. I don't think you will have any issues with them after they are grown, but as babies you will probably need to keep them high and dry.

Did you all see the news story on channel 10 about someone stealing someones chickens in Tempe? "Scrambled" and "Shake and Bake", looks like they got "Scrambled" back, but are looking for the other.

Oh pooh. I called Higley feeds and my wire is still mia. Anyone have another source for a large amount of 1/2 inch hardware cloth? My order is 1/2 X 1/2 X48" X 100'. The cost was $100.00.

I'm getting fed up! I want a NICE enclosure (with an eye to expansion heh heh heh)

Going back to craigs list now.

This may be an already covered idea, but did you check Home Depot? I know the one up here has hardware cloth and some pretty large rolls.

Try Ray's Feed. I do know they carry 1/2 X 1 cage wire that is of significantly heavier gauge than hardware cloth. Prices are good, too.

DEpends on the size of the birds and the depth of the water. I've had birds drown in irrigation water. Best to raise coops so that they are not flooded, especially if you have smaller or bantam breeds. On the other hand, get ducks or geese and they will sing your praises

I don't have any hardware cloth on any of my chicken coops. Only my quail and brooders. I use rabbit wire. Its heavier than hardware and cheaper. I line the inside with stucco wire because its cheaper than chicken wire.

We have irrigation every two weeks in the summer and once a month in the winter.

... I put my coop in the corner of the yard and raised it so it would be out of the water. I don't let them free range when there is irrigation unless it's summer and it has already soaked in a bit.

Good Morning all,
I have a problem that I hope all you chicken lovers can help me with. Due to my illness I can no longer care for my flock. I would like to re home them all. I have 3 RR, standard size. The rest are bantams, I have Frizzle, Black and white I have cochin , white, black. I EE. all the girls are laying eggs. I also have 4 Frizzle Roosters, I golden lace cochin. One a mix of sultan and cochin. Those could be butchered The Bantams are 10-11 months old. Fryer size.
It is breaking my heart to have to give them up. All but the 4 RR were hatched here by their mother. all lived. I will take a new count today, to see how many hens I have.

If any one is interested please pm me.
I sure pray for them to get a new home.

Tonopah Pati, I am terribly sorry to hear that you are not doing well. If you can't find someone closer to you, your flock is welcome to stay with me as long as you'd like. If you are able to take them back anytime you would be welcome to do so. Just let me know.

Howdy everyone!

So hopefully I'll get a new roo on Sunday. My original plan fell through and I won't get processing my current rooster on Saturday, nobody to teach me how to do it on Saturday (unless someone turns up last minute).

So I'm wondering, because I want to keep my rooster inside with me for a while so I get to know him better; does anyone have a bird cage I can rent or borrow for a while?
