Arizona Chickens

Nearby weather station reading a few minutes ago says feels like 20 degrees, actual temp 30 and dropping, calling for possible 20 degrees here and in some valley areas tonight. The winds ended up being very strong and sustained most of the night. The girls were covered with a tarp & it held and I haven't checked the rabbit barn yet. I hope everyone's livestock and plants did ok.
NoSkivees, happy anniversary. I'm sorry about your goat loss.

Are you folks in the downtown or metro city areas getting high winds, too? They've calmed down to about 35mph gusting here, windchill just dropped to 18 degrees. Dang, it's gonna be low teens tonight if the winds keep up.

Didn't go below 32 here!

Wahoo.

Maybe the wind helped

Dang hawk was back this morning looking for breakfast... .and I couldn't find my son's gun.

It was 29 at 4 am when I left. Sure it went below that. And the wind actually makes it worse! I had to rescue my bachelors. Good thing I built some chicken condos last weekend. Nice warm in the garage

. I guess the hawk needs more calories in this cold weather

Brr... its COLD today. Up on top of the mountain, all the silkies are huddling together in the coop. The babies didnt get outside time today, so are staying in the crate in my bedroom all day. they are not happy with that arrangement!

It's 31 here right now, with a windchill of 22. YUCK!!

Does anybody have any ideas for a cheap little getaway in AZ for my family? We would love to go somewhere for a couple of nights from Feb 12th-15th-ish. It would be fun to see some snow, but it's not a must. The hurdle is that we have 7 people and we are looking for something fun, clean, and super cheap. Does such a place exist? Most hotels won't even let us stay in a room together. For so many years we just went to visit family when we lived in Tennessee. Now we are far enough that we aren't expected to do that, so we just want to go some place where we can hang out with each other, you know?

I'm not sure how far you would have to go to find snow... my parents just drove through Flagstaff this morning and said the snow is already gone - it's only still lingering on the very tops of the mountains! Hubby and I like to just go camping and fish but it's still WAAAAY to cold for that now!!

Check VRBO.com (Vacation Rentals by Owner)
You can find a cabin or house that will accommodate all of you. I don't know about super cheap, but you can probably find a place in the mountains for under $200/night.

Hope it will be better by the 12th! We have Gold Rush Days! (Local super parade, not fun if it's cold

) Wondering: Should I participate with the chickens? How do you get chickens to march in a parade?
