When my daughters lived at home, we were always looking for cheap vacations (single mom no money). Here is what we used to do. 10 years ago they were super cheap...but prices have gone up.

Hualapai mt's have cabins through parks and rec. Beautiful area with hiking. Cabins have fireplaces or wood burning stoves, showers, toilets, fridge and stoves...heat. Bring your own groceries, bedding, dishes etc. Very reasonable prices, you can probably get the big cabin that sleeps 10 or so for about $100 a night. The smaller cabins run for about $50. You should check it out. http://www.mcparks.com/hualapai_mt_park.htm

In
warmer weather we used to get some great week day deals on rooms in the Bullhead city casinos. I would sit by the pool and do homework. Kids could swim all day and we would hit up the all you can eat buffets.

Mahonri, that's cold enough. Brrrr.

5pinkarrows, maybe look in the Prescott or Payson area, too. Craigslist usually lists a few reasonable ones, too. The Clarksdale 1/2 day train trip is always relaxing and a nice little get away not too far from snow (if there's any in Flag). Might be too chilly then, though, to enjoy the outside cars.

I really soaked the garden last night and all the plants still look like they are alive.

I'll do the same tonight... that said there was ICE in the outside chicken waterers... so it must have gone below 32.

Ran to pet depot and bought six bags of flock raiser for the little darlings. They don't go after it like they used to before I started feeding bread as a treat... They see me coming now and they expect bread.

Well I opened the BYC Easter Hatch thread... hope all you zonies will join in.

We set 2 months from today.

Hey all my fellow Arizonians!! I need lots of prayers and lots of support!!! I live in the suburbs of Flagstaff, but i'm VERY involved with my family-friend's ranch. My mom and i want property, so she was looking at houses online yesterday, just for fun. But she found one that's perfect for us!! I am very in love with horses, but because of 'city' circumstances i can't have a horse of my own.. cuz that would be a little strange haha. But this new house has 2 horse stables, tack room, a couple acres for riding, all backed up by our lovely forest! It's a short sale, which means it needs to sell quick. From the discription, it looks like we can fit my whole family in there. We're going to take a tour of it tomorrow!! I figure that because i'm only 14 i won't get my own horse for at least a year... but i was thinking people could board their horses there and i could feed them and excercise them (riding) and maybe also help train them for $$.... Sound like a good idea? The rest of my family isn't really involved with ranch-type things so... i would kinda be by myself on this. But i REALLY hope it works out cuz i hate living in the city! Thank you for your prayers and support!!!

Keep them fingers crossed!!!

TT: that little Polish mix laid today! And guess what color the egg was??? BLUE

With the feather coloring, I was certain that my marans roo had gotten with the splash polish, but somehow we got that coloring with the BW Ameraucana roo over the polish pullet that was WCBlue Polish X BBL Polish.
Anyway, just wanted to thank you again. At present I have her in with my BBL Polish roo, but I think I'm gonna move her back in with her daddy to see what I can hatch from her eggs! Should be some funky looking EEs.

Hello everyone,

Just popping on to say hi, I've been following but not posting for the last couple of weeks. Still shy I guess!

So sorry for everyone's losses!

My ladies have been duds since fall, only one or two eggs a week out of 4 hens, my Ameraucana finally laid again yesterday, but I know this weather will only slow them down again.

WHAT IS UP WITH THIS WEATHER!!!!!

I have not had the guts to check the garden yet today. Covered what I could, dumped straw on some seedlings and covered them, but I don't know if they will make it the next couple of nights.

Good luck with the cold everyone!

Anna

Hi Anna!

This is indeed strange weather! The wind is brutal and we're in for some seriously low temps here in Tucson tonight--18 degrees!

I have to get out there and re-secure all the plant covers before it gets dark. I got five eggs today, so no reduction in egg laying yet. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Good luck everyone.
