When my daughters lived at home, we were always looking for cheap vacations (single mom no money). Here is what we used to do. 10 years ago they were super cheap...but prices have gone up.
Hualapai mt's have cabins through parks and rec. Beautiful area with hiking. Cabins have fireplaces or wood burning stoves, showers, toilets, fridge and stoves...heat. Bring your own groceries, bedding, dishes etc. Very reasonable prices, you can probably get the big cabin that sleeps 10 or so for about $100 a night. The smaller cabins run for about $50. You should check it out. http://www.mcparks.com/hualapai_mt_park.htm
In warmer weather we used to get some great week day deals on rooms in the Bullhead city casinos. I would sit by the pool and do homework. Kids could swim all day and we would hit up the all you can eat buffets.
