Chickie update - I will try to get some pics with names up soon!

Our whole slew of bantam pullets are growing and getting more crazy (and LOUD, thanks to Americaunas/Aracaunas (??) Grey Beard and Bandit)

Grey Beard has started running back & forth in front of my as I'm walking with food and suddenly stopping & squatting

I think she's growing up

Duster, the red frizzle cochin jumps up into laps for petting and instantly falls asleep....she had an adventure a week or so ago during the first part of the super cold weather - she fell in the pool in front of my DF (Dear Fiancee, that's new!) who scooped her out right away. I took her inside, dried her off with towels and busted out my rarely-used hairdryer, which I was worried about using (noise, scary cord, etc).

I shouldn't have worried though as she loved it....stretched out her wings so I could dry under her wings, dry her fluffy butt, etc.

I think I may make it into the next edition for Jeff Foxworthy's "You might be a Redneck if..." calendar... You might be a redneck if you've used your hairdryer on a chicken...

We still hope to pare down on the bantam pullets some, but it's getting hard to figure out who should go

The Japanese, Buff Brahmas and Sultans, while all beautiful just aren't as interesting to me as the other little weirdos we've got....I dunno, maybe we can part with them?

Thought of a question if any of you have ideas -


one of the MFD pullets has a naked patch of skin on her neck, under her head. It's high enough/close enough to her beak that I don't think she could do it herself, and because of where it is I don't think that another chicken could be pulling feathers from her there. She's had this for quite a while I think. You almost don't see it unless you're sitting down and watching them run around in front of you.

She's active, eats, poops and chatters like a champ, and the skin looks ok to me...I see teeny/small pinfeathers in the skin, but I don't think they're growing, of they may just be downy feathers?? We got her from Ideal poultry, along with all of the other bantam chicks we've got now.


Has anyone seen something like this? Could it just be genetic, or maybe she's got some naked neck in her family tree??

anyone in mesa have an incubator
to hatch some chicken eggs
i usually go to my friends house and he hatches
them for me but he cant hatch any for two months

Mahonri - I candled today. Six seems to be the lucky number. I kept the clear ones in again just incase. I only candled 15 of the 18. I can't seem to find the other 3...or I'm loosing my color perception. I have to move racks in the sportman, and I will check to see if I put some in there.

Help! AZ members with a Brinsea incubator: I have a question. I was reading all kinds of threads regarding temperature and humidity for the incubator. Bottom line I am more confused than ever

. Opinions are numerous like sand on a beach. So I wonder what people do in a similar climate with the same gear. Hence AZ and Brinsea (I have the octagon, forced air, automatic turner).
Can you please tell me what humidity and temp ranges you succesfully use during what incubation period?
