I am so far behind and soooo busy, so I give up! HAHA! I hope everyone is doing well. Have any of you had a 7wk old chick start crowing? We have 8 chicks that we got from AZ Feeds. 3 of them are Silver Hamburgs that were supposed to be pullets. Would you believe that 2 of the 3 are roos?? I am so annoyed by that. I know it isn't their fault since they just trust the hatchery, but still. I called anyway. They agreed to take the 2 roos back and trade me for some 6wk old SLWs. The lady told me that you usually can't tell gender at 7 weeks, but the difference is incredible. The pullet has a black, tiny comb and no wattles. The boys have great big red combs and big wattles, and of course the crowing was a great hint. I am kind of sad to let one of them go. He is so pretty. I bet he will be beautiful when he is grown, but I think we are a one roo family. The kids do so much with the chickens and I don't like worrying about them getting attacked, especially my tiny 2yo. We only even have the one roo because he is a Polish and can't see well enough to do any real damage. He attacked me once, but it was nothing more than pecking my toe. Anyway, I am annoyed that we have to get rid of these chicks that the kids are attached to, but what are you going to do? At least the feed store is so willing to help us out. I will have to take pictures to show you the difference in the chicks
