Hey Mahonri,
The current tally on the eggs is; 10 chicks, 5 quit, 9 clears on day 10. We'll see what day 18 brings

Wow both you and Mahonri are having such a bad spell with the heat. My sympathies to you both.

I'm going to have to find a rooster or order more eggs. I have 1 hatchery pullet and one pullet from the two different breeders I got the eggs from. It was the white one that died yesterday and the last of the roosters.

Out of the White face black Spanish, I got around 85% roosters. Ha ha. I have awesome rooster luck. I have 20 roosters going to slaughter tomorrow.

I have 4-6 Silkie roosters (free) to anyone who wants them. Soup birds or pets (all except one, he gets canned regardless because he beats up kids when no one is looking)

Meg, my oil will be here tomorrow. The molds done. Lye Tuesday. I think I might get hubby to make some smaller molds too. AND....I've been saving coffee grounds too!

Whoot! You are SO going to love soapmaking. Feel free to call. I'm putting together a little class for some interested parties and will post. About the coffee: I'm too lazy to grind my grounds and hate to do the cleanup so...what really works well for me is to buy a double at Starbucks and ask them for the grinds. Extras can live in the freezer until you need 'em, but I usually just throw them out so I "have" to go get more coffee.

Here they usually have be 5 pound bags of grounds for free. I thought about picking some up but they mix flavored and unflavored and I wasn't sure how cinnamon and hazlenut would mix together. I've been researching all kinds of goodies! When are you doing the class? We are coming to town Saturday to pick up another fridge. I might be able to stop by. My biggest concerns lay with knowing what 'trace' looks like. Today o bought a glass brownie pan on clearance to use as a mold...but now I cant, its perfect brownie size. My cousin has the same skin issue Azari has and I cant wait to send her a box of soap! She pays $7 a bar for goat milk soap! When I told her about all of the great stuff she wanted to try it. This Christmas everyone is going to get the impression that they stink!

I really liked the amber colored soap (it was smaller and thinner) and the dark brown one. The green one with salt smells so good. I've been reading up on essential oils and I'm going to try making some. We have no oranges so hubby went and got some and a bottle of vodka. Its weird to have vodka in the house when we don't drink. I picked up some lime, lemon and grapefruit to see how that turns out. Baby food jars will be the test tubes. I've been crocheting some soap holders out of cotton so we can steer away from the plastic poofs in the shower. I wanted to order mango butter and coffee butter but its so expensive. I did get the shea and cocoa. I'm ordering some benonite (sp) clay and ketonite (sp) clay to make shaving bars. I found a soap makers forum too, as if i need another forum. I'm going to get with Chrystal and see about dropping my goats off at her house to hang out with her buck. I have 1 more vax I want to give before I get them bred. Goat milk from my goats next year. I feel pretty good about trying the basic recipes. I found a one bar recipe. I'm super nervous about making milk soaps. I've read its very easy to scorch it and ruin the whole batch. I'm just a chatter box tonight!

Anyone want two ugly dinosaur type chicks, that are mostly likely roos? I've got two 6 week old chicks that I hatched from eggs. I bought the eggs locally and the chicks were supposed to be Rhode Island Reds, but they are not pure - probably a RIR mix.

These two are large, have very long legs, and have been slow to feather, which makes me think they are boys, but..... My barnevelder pullets in my last batch were also super slow to feather and had me fooled, so I'm not 100% sure they are both boys (probably 90% sure). The first chick has a comb that has started to turn pick. The comb on the other chick is still tiny and yellow. These chicks were hatched on April 30th (6 weeks old yesterday). They are very calm and docile towards the other chicks (calmer than most of the others), but are scared of me (not calm when I pick them up). They are free to anyone here on BYC.

These pics were taken tonight, in total darkness, so they were already roosting when I went in there (thank goodness for the camera that makes it look like day). They have been sleeping outside for the last week. I don't care what you do with them, as long as it's humane (I will probably put them down if no one wants them because I don't want them to get into the wrong hands for fighting purposes and am afraid that's what will happen if I take them to the feed store). I'm near 67th Ave and Union Hills (1 mile from the 101 in northern Glendale).

I don't have any females like him. I'm debating if I should put him with a standard cuckoo or bcm. He is quite a sweet boy.

I have one female like him... she's laying nice brown eggs.

I would put him over a BCM to see what you get.

well, i just got home from a long weekend with my Brownie Troop at the AZ Grand. Had a good time with NINE 7 year olds at the water park for 2 days. I am pooped! And what do I come home to? A dead pullet. One of my favorites, one I was absolutely going to keep, flew over the 6 foot fence and met her fate with THE BEAGLE.
