Arizona Chickens

Trader Joe's. You can buy fertile eggs there. Mclevinson and ca, what kind are they? I seem to recall that they were Hyline?

I am completely without clue here.

I'm dumb and misread the last post

That's tough. You can always go for the yard and then down the road, if you decide you really miss chickens and want to have just a few, build yourself a small little coop that will not detract from your nice, new yard.

My TJ rooster is one of the most stunning animals I have. He is gorgeous! And the hen will soon be laying. Science experiment at it's best

.

I tried the TJ eggs before, but found that the shells were thinner, so my broody hen kept breaking them. When placed in an incubator, that won't matter. Make sure you look for the very freshest eggs, if you try this experiment - maybe even visit more than 1 TJ to find the freshest batch. The date the eggs were laid can be found on the carton. It's a 3 digit number -- for example: 121 would mean that the eggs were laid on the 121st day of the year.

ArizonaDesertChicks, I never knew that about the date on egg cartons. That's a good tidbit of info. I hope I never have to use it (unless I'm getting eggs for hatching).

ca, please post pics of your TJ's roo!

Here's a link on Hy-line chickens: http://www.hyline.com/aspx/products/products.aspx?navid=3 I think TJ's uses the W-36, but my memory is rusty. I've heard lots of great things about these birds too.

Exactly. And the freshest eggs won't be in the egg case, but awaiting re-stocking in the back. A nice lady at TJ's dug new ones out for me and they were processed 6 days before. Pretty darn good.

Wow, I need to learn from you. I went in there and only found boxes that were about 3 weeks old. That's what I bought

. Never even thought of asking. But I have friends there now. I bring them pics of "T" and "J" evey now and then and they are still amazed that you can get a whole chicken out of an egg
