Do you have chickens now?

Awesome. thanks for the info. Yes we have 13 hens right now, lost one last week to the heat. Also have two chicks in the brooder two weeks old. Only hatched five out of thirty and of those five only two were strong enough to live.

Welcome to the AZ section Kevs Chickadees, I am new here at the forum as well for the most part though not new to keeping chickens and such. Nice folks and lots of information here!

Thanks for all the welcomes and yes a lot of good info on here. I'm sure I will need a lot of it during these brutal summer months. Well I will talk to everyone later, time to light some wimpy so called fireworks!

These eggs are meant for human consumption (TJs is a wonderful grocery store, not a pet store). Therefore no normal consumer cares what breed they are. Therefore TJs don't mark them except "fertilized"eggs. Mine definitely look like what Gallo pointed out earlier (sorry, pic has to wait a couple of days

I think with the Trader Joes, if they are white eggs (they say fertile eggs on the package if what I've read is correct) then they should be leghorns. If they are brown, I don't know what, probably some kind of a sex link production bird. Sometimes I've heard you can find the info for the farm on the package and call and ask. You also want to get the freshest ones you can (longest expiration date).

LOL! Elvis is most assuredly a boy. He sleeps in the house in his "cat" carrier. When we put him out after 9am (acceptable crowing time for the hood, or so we would guess), we have been lazy and putting it on top of their coop and leaving the front unzipped. So, the girls are sneaking in there and nesting during the day. We caught Priscilla in the act today, well my DH did since I was at work all day.
