Arizona Chickens

CA- I loved that picture- my silly little Pullets, 6 week olds, keep piling up in two nest boxes to roost at night. There will be about nine in each box and maybe two on the actual roosts. It reminds me of your picture. I have no idea how they keep from suffocating overnight. I really don't know why I bother running the fan overnight in the coop.
Then, the OEGBs have to roost on the wall all tucked in behind a lemon tree branch. I keep catching them ( and scratching myself up on the lemon tree in the process) every night and putting them in the coop so that a cat doesn't come by for an easy happy meal. You'd think after two weeks of this, they'd figure out where they wake up isn't where they went to sleep? I don't worry about the ten pound jumbos getting eaten but the little bitty Banties are a tasty morsel for a cat.
Nurseshelly- my BBRed OEGB sounds like he has laryngitis when he crows. He's ten weeks old and everyone who hears him just busts out laughing. It's just hysterical. I don't think a neighbor can hear him, much less recognize him as a rooster. He sure is proud of himself, though. Started crowing at five weeks. The Egyptian roo (5 weeks) and the other 10 week old OEGB haven't started crowing at all, yet.

-Finally figured out how to tell my golden pencilled hamburgs and buttercups aprt. The green legs are buttercups and the blue legs are hamburgs.

Anybody want some really, really, really green legged Easter Egger ladies? They look like they have alien legs! Lots of pretty red heads with black speckles. I've never seen such green legged chickens before!

Two jumbo crosses down today and five to go!

Everyone - you crack me up, thanks! It has been a tiring couple of weeks and I appreciate the laughs.

Pastrymama - sorry for your losses. And one in the pool??!!!

I have missed other losses, I can't keep up. Please accept my sympathies.

Mikey D - I don't know what to say. You have a very good wife. Hang on to her. I'm fortunate, my spouse is the one who wanted chickens in the first place!

mclevinson - Ack, if you were in Tucson, I could help for a few hours. RE poultry netting, I found some for the garden at Home Despot last year, green, plastic, chicken wire looking stuff. It was much easier to work with than chicken wire, but it did not survive the sun and heat. It was breaking down by the end of the summer.

There is more to respond to, but really, I can't keep up. Sorry!

Oh yes, Mamahenchris -

how much do you charge for interior coop decoration? In my case, I am more of an interior desecrator.

Forgot to tell Nurseshelly - That Phylis is fabulous! Great pics and now I want seramas, too!

Just to jump in, does anyone around Tucson want a Barred Rock roo? he's starting to crow and as cute as it is, once my neighbors find out it may not go over well...

Whoa! Those cupcakes are awesome!

How has everyone been? The heats been making life unbearable. I'm ready for November. Somehow I managed to hurt my neck. I most likely hurt it by sleeping wrong. Our family was chosen to decorate a coyote that will be auctioned to a local business in town. Were pretty excited about it. All my chickens are freeloaders. No eggs today at all.
