Arizona Chickens

We've tried Ross, (should have listed it--I forgot), but they did not have much. I do know that that is a store that sometimes has nothing and sometimes has more than you could ever ask for. Burlington Coat Factory is a great idea! Now I just need to get some time to take him shopping--harder to do now that he is in school, but his class load is pretty light except on Fridays, then it is basically 8:30-5 with an hour off for lunch--not your typical college day.

Mikey you're Soooo funny! Should get them tomorrow, right/

Hi everyone.
I'm back. There is no way after months of absence that I can catch up on what you all are up to, but I decided I'd better jump in somewhere.
I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up again, but I'll try.

Anyway, I had a very hard summer and just when things were starting to look up we lost half of our chickens last Thursday. We were taking our daughter to U of A and moving her in.
I had texted my neighbor to see if he could watch the chickens and he had said he'd love to so I figured they were all set. He's usually very good about it. Thursday evening I called him to see if everything was OK because, while it was raining in Tucson, I heard it was record hot here in Phoenix. He didn't know what I was talking about. I figured out that I had texted a wrong number and the person I texted must have been mean or something. Instead of telling me I had the wrong number, he thought it would be funny to say he'd watch them. So all of the 2 year old chickens died because they were in the coop that isn't quite as shaded. The 1 year olds made it but were definitely stressed. I usually let them free range during the day and they find much cooler spots to hang out.
I can't believe someone would do something like that and I texted him to tell him so. (He understandably wouldn't answer my calls)

So... I need to raise chicks again. Is anyone interested in going in on an Ideal order for 9/14. I don't think the feed stores get chicks until October.

Sonoran Silkies:
My daughter has the same clothes problem. She would like to start wearing more mature clothes but isn't quite there yet in size.

That guy ought to be shot with live horse sh!t!

Tracy & I just place an order from Ideal last night. Don't know if it is possible to tweak the order. And while we wanted the 9/14 hatch, we might be getting chicks tomorrow.

Silly hidden hatch request date!

Best of luck with your one year olds!

Mikey

Welcome back, it's great to hear from you again. I'm sorry about your hardships this summer.

How thoughless and immature a person! That's awful.

My daughter has the same problem. She's eleven now but still wears a 7, like her little sister.

Unbelievable! I'm so sorry about your chickens. People can be so thoughtless, not realizing what they think is a harmless joke can devastate someone's family. I sure hope he got the message.

On a general subject, I just heard back from the HOAs I thought allowed chickens and they said no.

I'm a little worried to check my email now because my response was maybe a little too bold. While I thanked them for promptly answering, I was disappointed to find they found cats allowed to wander and mark the neighborhood as their own to be a more acceptable pet because they are common household pets, opposed to chickens that are less common but are confined and provide many benefits such as providing eggs and meat and eating table scraps to cut down on food waste. Then I proceeded to say I heard of an HOA in San Tan Valley that was a bright light in the dismal mosaic of HOA communities because it allowed chickens, but was unsure which one it was specifically, hoped it was theirs and was disappointed to find it was not. I did end by saying that I would respect their rules, though. I'm just a little ashamed of my outspokenness, though... I'm only like that when I'm writing. Oh well, the search continues. If all else fails and I can't find the HOA in San Tan Valley that allows chickens, it's more important that my family and I get into a house, so chickens will have to wait.

Now Mikey we all know you wanted them tomorrow...you can easily brood them while putting together a quick pen

Becky, sorry about that...what an accident and not funny! It's one thing to add randomly, but to have to start over because of someone's idea of a joke, not so funny!

The rest of the catch-up has been pretty hilarious...grabbing snakes, not....TT giving away ratty silkies and mop heads as a prize...

Memphis, we need a pic and they are probably trying to trick you into the trip cured them, if not...I might take mine for a long ride
