Arizona Chickens

The heat never bothered me much until I had to worry about chickens. I wish I could move to Tucson with my family where the heat is more tolerable.

I can't seem to adapt to the heat. Maybe growing up in Boulder, or my Finnish heritage? If I'm outside very long in the heat my heart starts racing, I sometimes even stop sweating and I've had several episodes of heat exhaustion. Sometimes its taken me two or three days to recover.
I am not designed for this weather. Is it almost November, yet?

I've heard once you've experienced heat stroke your more likely to continue to get it and easier each time. That sucks!

We set the trap last night and caught something, but some how it fliipped the trap over and escaped!!! We will reset up tonight. I went to check on the chickens in the coop today. I just had a feeling to move the chicken feeder and its about 3 feet long. I moved it and low and behold is that bast%^$ snake I have been trying to catch for weeks, and it has a bulge in it. My momma hen instincts kicked in, I grabbed the shovel and started stabbing it with it, not even knowing what kind of snake it was. I missed several times and started screaming as it was lunging at me! .

I finally had it pinned with the shovel and It couldn't move, but I was stuck. I didn't have my phone and I didn't want to let go of the pressure or the snake may escape. I started yelling help...no one came (the coop is about 200 feet away from my house). Finally I let go enough to run to the door and get my husband attention and he came and saved the day. He said I heard you yelling but I though that you were just yelling at the chickens!!! Hello...I never raise my voice to my chickens, children is another story. He killed it with the shovel method. I must not be very strong because that it what I did and nothing happened for me!!! He left and said that he would cut it open later...that wasn't good enough for me. By this time the neighbor girl came bring me back my 20 month old that I had forgotten about it my snake rage and she said that she would cut it open. I just wanted to see what baby it had!! We flipped out and finally I had to do it...but there was alot of screaming going on!!!! It wasn't a serama thank goodness!

I took pictures..those to follow after I take a sanatizing shower. I still can feel it moving!!!!! On a good note it was a bull snake almost 6 feet long!!!

I need to butcher my remaining Cornish X before they die but who wants to butcher in this heat?

Just caught a brand new baby rattlesnake near the coop, wonder where the other 5 or 6 are.... They are born live and fully armed. Chicken can likely dispatch one, but they were smart and staying away...

The rain never bothered me much until my roof started leaking...

... hopefully it's fixed now. I kinda like the rain.

So did you get your order date fixed for 9/14? I won't be ready until then.

We did. It's all set. I'm sure we could add to it, if needed. Just PM me what you want and any details.

Do you think we could get them to label the breeds? For an extra buck a wack for each breed we paid, they should write on em with a sharpie or sumptin...
