Arizona Chickens

I usually eat a chocolate covered cone while reading this at night.

TUCSON I NEED YOUR ADVICE!

I'm preparing to relocate to Tucson and open to advice

I've been trying to get back to the southwest for years and plotting my move to Tucson and it looks like it may finally be happening! I'm a single, middle-aged woman, no kids, and will be renting. And I'm bringing about a dozen of my chickens with me as well as my dog and cat. I'm open to any and all advice about living in different parts of the city/neighborhoods, traffic, job market, shopping, etc. I'm worried about finding a "chicken friendly" rental that I can afford and trying to figure out how to arrange living accommodations from out of state before I get there.

I'm fairly familiar with Tucson proper, but don't know much about some of the surrounding communities. I'm not sure what the best way is to search for rentals either. I've heard it's a chicken friendly city, but not so sure how that will work when I'm renting. Please PM me if you can offer any sort of advice. Plus I'd love to become acquainted with other BYC members from AZ and the Tucson area. Thanks!

Hi Meara! Are you sure you really want to move to Tucson?

You should know that it's pretty hot here. On a day like today, I really have to wonder what I was ever thinking. In all seriousness, I'd be glad to help with any questions you have. Too bad I didn't know about you two weeks ago, there is a house at the end of my block that was for rent and it has a chicken coop! The previous renters had chickens. The new renters have 3 great danes, but no birds. I'll keep my eyes open. PM me if you have any questions.

are you bidding on ebay? Are you sure they are cheaper than QCsupply? That's where I get mine from usually.
I am now completely switched over to nipples (except my stupid batch of 13 week olds). I train newly hatched chicks immediately so they never even get started with a water bowl. Works like a charm.

Ok, I'm going to clean the frozen Egyptian Roo today. I'm curious to see if he's all black, like a Silky! They have black legs and face.
I'm so sick of this heat. I can't even start my fall gardens because I need to haul trailer loads of manure from where my horses are and I won't do it until this heat breaks. I sure hope I don't miss my cucumber and green bean planting window!
We went to NM this summer, to Raton and Las Vegas. Picked up some peaches at Walmart of all places. They must of come from Colorado because they reminded me of peaches when I was a kid or the peaches off my trees in OK. You just can't get peaches like that around here. If I'd known they were going to taste that good, I would have bought fifty pounds to bring home and can. They were that good! I've not had a good peach since we lived in AZ. Even the PYO peaches aren't very good, better but not great.
This weather is just about to drive me crazy!
