Arizona Chickens

I processed my first rooster this morning. I have spent the past month watching youtube videos and dreading the deed. This morning I was up before the sun and had him vacuum packed and in the fridge by 08:00. Took me over 2 hours.....cuz I kept getting scared right before the cut. But I finally did it. My husband didn't believe it until he got my photo text. nerves are still a bit jumpy....but really really glad the first one is done. Maybe the rest will be easier?............please tell me yes??

1 down and 5 more to go from the Easter hatch.

And I do think Aurora may have been off by several weeks when she was trying to remember the ages of the Am's I bought from her. They are on the puny side. They have grown, look healthy and beautiful though.

This thread moves to fast to even try and keep up.

This is a 2.5 gallon Home Depot bucket....

I use 2.5 because the 5 gallon are very heavy and I change water daily....

The holes are 5/16 of an inch and go in tight and I use a small dab of pure silicone on the threads for the screw in and also on the press in style. It helps keep a tight seal and is removable if I need to replace one.

The first batch of nipples I got on eBay had 3 without the small bearing in them and they did that. I ordered some better quality ones and they do not leak, one thing to remember is they need to have around 4 pounds pressure to seal well and too much pressure from like a hose without a regulator will also cause problems. Using a bucket and swamp cooler float shut off valve works great for an auto water system.

Not as inexpensive as the water in the bucket hanging from the roof, but the water stays cooler longer.
