LOL!

I know what you mean about catching up! I was busy yesterday, and they added 5 pages while I was away!

Years ago we were at our favorite pet shop and the owner gave my son a Pigeon egg that had been laid in the cage. Told my son to put it under our doves and they will hatch it.

Well they did!! My son hand fed it, and it was such a great pet!

Mikey,
The coop is looking great! I had to laugh at the bare feet and "monkey boy!

Thank you all for the compliments on our little quail eggs! It's so fun to find them! And I do have to wonder if that's where the idea for the candy eggs came from like Mikey said. lol...

I got some done on the quail cage yesterday but have been slowed down due to a tooth ache. :-(

Someone suggested some plants, and for the life of me cant remember who.

(I do remember the advitar was a white chicken. :) so sorry, but after catching up on threads, I just cant'. But a huge thank you for the help with plants!!

I stopped by our health food store and got a sprouting jar yesterday. It's larger than I expected, but nice! Now to get busy making more sprouts.

They also had another product (Spirulina) I was going to order on line, so that will save me time and shipping! They are even having it brought over from their other store for me. I'll get it today. So Cool!

I've enjoyed everyones pictures! Grand babies and chicks!!

I was going to say 4", but that was a minimum to keep bedding in. 6" should be fine. I would suggest that you either hinge it or attach it in some manner that you can remove it for cleaning out old bedding, poop, broken eggs, etc. I have a couple of ready made nest boxes that are a HUGE pain to clean out. Hence I do not use them. About once a year I haul them out, clean them up and put them in the coops. A month or two later I get disgusted with them and toss them into a storage pile.

FWIW, piano hinges cost WAY, WAY, WAY less at IMS than at Home Depot or Lowes. Heck, just about any metal costs less there.

As long as you have something to hang some sort of curtain from to give the hens security you'll be fine. Consider putting up beaded curtains ala '60s or maybe cute cafe curtains (I assume a short valance would be about the right length. Make sure to put some wooden or marble eggs or golf balls in for encouragement.

Thanks Sonorian! I made the bottoms of the nest boxes hinge downwards for cleaning (see picts to follow) - great minds think alike. First time I'm hearing about curtains, not sure if your messing w/me...

Okay, so conditions were better? That's good. I liked the setup of the old location, but there were huge problems with neighboring tenants. A lot worse than the conditions that concern you.

And of course you must thoroughly wash, starch and iron them weekly.

(I assumed you were already thinking of curtains:)
Also, do I need a piece hanging down from the top of the entrance to the nest boxes?

I assume the idea is to make the hens feel safe and claustrophobic.

yes, it was better than i had seen it in quite some time truthfully. but still, i can't get over the ill appearing birds that were there. it's my reason as to why i stopped purchasing chicks months and months ago. they are either hatched or mail ordered now.
and i too, preferred the other location. they had more space. what was the issue with the other tennants or are you sworn to secrecy
