I had this Ameraucana/Polish Roo named Rocky, that I got from Mahonri, quarantined with some Golden Cuckoo Marans. The Marans are drama Queens at laying time. When I mixed them with my laying flock, the marans didn't seem comfortable with the nesting boxes. They would squawk and pace at egg laying time. Rocky would talk to them, nodding his head and hop in and out of the nesting box. Finally they would follow him in. Sometimes he would stay inside with them, other times he stood outside and waited. This went on for months, until the Marans could go and lay without all the Drama. When they finally settled down, he would just wait outside the box and then sing the eggsong with them when they finished.
Unfortunately Rocky got a feather up his behind, and started attacking my grandkids. So, he is protecting a free ranging flock of ladies out in buckeye. In a couple of weeks, I am taking my friend some BSL Pullets. Will see if he has the same behavior with his new ladies.
