Arizona Chickens

I have some shrimp pellets (maybe 6oz left of a 9oz can) that I was thinking might be treats for the peepers/cluckers. Fishies don't like them...

Crude protein - 30%
crude fat - 3%
crude fiber - 10%
Ascorbic acid - 400mg / kg

Any thoughts?

Hi Gallo, I have not heard of a Javalina with rabies until now.... I know they have a nasty bite that is known to become very infected if one is not careful, but not rabies. They are omnivores so perhaps they ate an infected animal or it was bitten by one?

Either way I would think they would be aggressively trying to locate the other 2, but that does not seem to be the case.

Good ideas.

Remember, cheese is like crack for chickens!

No Cheese... Got it!

Now , I need to go see what my babies would like! Treats are so much fun! We give all sorts of goodies to our parakeets too.

My quail like rice crispies. lol

So, in AZ we can legally shoot the bad guys who threaten us in our house or property but not the rabid javelina? I think, if it comes down to me or the rabid pig, I'd take my chances on the fine.

I took the CCW class a couple of times. You can only shoot the bad guys if that is your only recourse. If you can get away, you are supposed to get away. I know the laws change on a regular basis and the last class I attended was about 2 years ago.

Just get a silencer. If no one hears a gunshot, nothing happened. (I'm from New Jersey)

No, no, no! They LOVE cheese! So far more than anything else I've tried.

My mom accused me of making doll houses instead of chicken coops, and I am no where near some of the fancy coops you see. Different strokes for different folks.

My husband does the same thing. He doesn't share my passion or help me build. He accuses me of going overboard, calls me a crazy chicken lady and keeps a mental tab of chicken expenses. But, when his buddies come over he shows off the coops and chickens and proudly tells them his "wife did it by herself". Little moments like that add validation. Great to know the Spousal support it there!!

Mikey- Your coop is definitely a good, solid well built coop. You did a great job!! (although, I can envision a curtain or two and some pastel paint....

As usual missed a day and have way too much to catch up on.

The Rabid Havalina attack is really spooky. Last year we had a Havalina in the driveway early one morning. Haven't seen any since then, but will keep an eye out now!!

On shooting bad guys- My CCW class was about 2 years ago too. Last year there were some changes to the laws and I did buy the new Arizona Gun Owners Guide. Even got Alan Korwin to autograph it for me at a gun show.

But, unfortunately haven't read all of it yet. I bet defense shooting probably hasn't changed much. You can only shoot to defend life, not property. There must be no question that life is in danger and can only meet force with equal force. So if you shoot the bad guy must have a weapon of some sort and/or be bigger, stronger, meaner. The Cop that taught my last class was adamant about not making a police statement until you had a lawyer present. He stated that it was even a requirement of the force, when ever a shooting took place. I really, really hope to never have to shoot. In my perfect scenario, once I announce that I am armed and willing to shoot the bad guy runs away!! However, I have received enough tactical training to know that if I need to use my gun, it will be a head or chest shot.

Ok more pleasant subject- I am making the coup tour this year!! Last year I went by Mahonri's and opted to pick up chickens on tour day and had to rush them back to Congress. So, no tour for me last year. this year I am determined!! Looks like tickets don't go on sell until the first of the month.

Wow Bob, that is a lot of paint. I am curious too as to how big your coops are. You must have a whole bunch of chickens!!

edit cuz my fingers and my brain refuse to work together
