One of our much beloved AZ members.

She had gotten sick and dropped out for a while, then she came on to tell us she didn't have much time left, but they didn't know how much. Turns out it was like, ~2 weeks.

i was just thinking about patti the other day too. i thought that perhaps she had passed. how did you find out?

oh laree, i went ahead and am trying out the new quarrantine coop anyway. it's good enough. got two in there, an ameraucana and a buttercup. checked everyone else, they are fine for now

For those who have never been to Tour De Coops - GO! It's lots of fun. When we toured the first year there were about 6 stops in the east valley. I'm guessing there will be more now. It's so much more than just chickens and coops - we met one chicken owner in Mesa (just we few blocks from my house) and we discussed permaculture, solar cooking and rainwater harvesting. One place in Gilbert had a fantastic veggie garden with items for sale. The coops range from five star Taj Mahal level to DIY portable chicken tractors/coops that are made to be rotated so that gardens planted where the hens cultiated and fertilized the soil. We met lots of people taking the tour who were thinking - as we were, about getting a few hens.

If you're planning to go to Tour De Coops - take a camera along, also a pad and pen for sketches and notes. You'll learn a lot. Also- have cash on hand for some shopping. They sell t-shirts, soap, crafts, etc at some of the stops.

Tour De Coops is put on by the Valley Permaculture Alliance. They also have a class "Raising Backyard Chickens." I think it's about $10.00 but was worth ten times that to us. I can't say enough about how wonderful the VPA is!
