Did you notice the writing on the paint can? It's
eggshell paint.
What's even funnier is that we have a chicken named Sparta. Well done southerndesert. She looks awesome!
I wondered if anyone wold click on the paint, but cool that the brand is a name of your chicken
Ruby was a pretty girl from the day we got her from Pastrymama a couple months back and has just gotten better looking since becoming mature and laying. When she is in a nest box it looks like someone stuffed her in as it is plumb full of feathers wits a beak and eyes
She was shy at first and was picked on by the Dominique hens and EE we got with her so she defected to the other flock where she is queen bee now and if her former tormenters get too close she fluffs up and goes after them, funny stuff there.
She has become the family favorite hen even though cuddling and pampering by the kids is not her cup of tea and she will have none of that....
edit because I am competing with Mikey for most edits....
oh bill, thanks for posting that pic of ruby. i can't believe you remembered the name i gave her! yes, she was always a gorgeous girl, but the kids preferred her brother who had the misfortune of falling in the pool while we were in mexico this summer
max was the cuddler, not ruby and the kids tried to make her so, but as yours have found out, she will have none of it! but i am willing to bet she will be a good broody. glad to hear she has found her place as she was so sad when max drowned.
those white ones, they are delawares(not dominiques, but it's ok, you call them whatever you want
) they are my favorites, just not heat tolerant for phoenix
