Thanks, pastrymama, thanks Noel! I actually found a mysterious brownish little egg in my coop with white and blue egglayers. Guess who lives also there? The Sulmtalers!!! Could it be? they are 18 weeks... Unfortunately the roosters are still oblivious so Mahonri will have to wait for fertile eggs just a little longer...

I put my silkies out at about 7-8 weeks, but I let them stay inside longer than I probably should have. They just love that garden bathtub. It was also Spring time when the temps weren't as cold.

It's a lot harder to judge when the weatehr is getting colder, not warmer. My ~6 week old babies still seem to get cold; I have a heat lamp in with them 24/7, with plenty of space for them to get away from the heat if they want. I can'gt see taking it away any time soon. One looked a bit chilly this morning, but one of the two lamps had burned out. I'll replace that bulb f=before the temperature drops tonight.

Thanks Jackenhoss and Sonoran, I will be putting them out with my adults and the adults will take care of them. I did this before. I just don't want to put them out to soon. My chicks will be 4 weeks old next Monday. At least the bought ones will be. My pretty silver one is a couple of weeks behind them. My silky adults are so sweet. Even the roo Tumbleweed loves the chicks.

Fuzzy - I'm going to place the order when they hatch some app spitz's - please keep in touch

OK here is the deal...

Horny toads are protected in AZ.

You can get a booklet from Game & Fish that will tell you which ones you can collect.

You need a hunting licence to do so though.

You can also purchase a non AZ Horny Toad (California or Texas)

They are very difficult to raise and NEED ants - a lady back east crushes up ants & sprays them on crickets so the HT's will get the acid they need.

I got this information from Jake at Wild Side Pets - good guy, good store - 480-985-3121

*** edited 'cause that's how I roll!***

Wow. Who knew? I used to catches them at my gramma's house. She said she stepped on one once as a child and the forms really were ouchie.

I just might give Jake a call. I sure would love a horned toad as a pet and he won't lack ants to eat! Thanks!

We still have 2 that you relocated miles & miles & miles away. Walt says he is going to do the large one soon but still has to talk to the taxidermy dude before doing the rattler.

We have a beautiful king snake that I even caught to pet and show the others in the household. We love him being under the house. That's one of the good snakes to have around. They kill rattlers.
