Arizona Chickens

It'RedCandy,
lol...we named our 4 Parmesan, Marsala, Fajita and Cordon Bleu

Mikey,
I will post pics of the coop and the chicks when I finish painting it. My daughter was adamant about having a pink coop. We settled on Brown with pink trim and roosts. Actually doesn't look that bad believe it or not

ok ok, i know we already had a phone convo this morn about the frenchies. first, 25 frenchies WILL NOT blend in with the app spitz, esp when they arrive in two seperate shipping boxes, or were you hoping the control tower wold not be home the morning of the 25th? ah HA! very clever you are.

second, if you want to wait until the end of february, i will go in with you. you'll have all those packing peanuts to process beforehand anyway and then a new batch a month later and it's like a party all over again! but if you are impatient like me, i can wait until fall. i just need to get my mom thru this time first. okie?

Okie. Knowing me I'll prolly wind up ordering another box when you're ready.

And yes - like you I want 'em NOW!

Just a quick introduction. My name is Selina. I live in far east Mesa. I have been reading this thread for the last few weeks. I am really excited to start my chicken adventure. I just joined the BYC today https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/620256/new-member-from-mesa-az I purchased chicks from the feed store in AJ. I really wanted some white egg layers but they didn't have any. I've been looking on craigslist to try and find some but no luck there either. I would like to get a couple more chicks before these chicks get too big. Right now they are 11 days old and very cute. We are going to name them after chicken recipes, however they are going to be egg layers not food (for a while). I can't tell the difference between the reds. I think I have one Ameraucana, which I am naming Parmesan. The others will have names like nugget, noodle soup, pot pie, ala king, taco....etc. I may not post much as I know very little. Everything I know, I've learned here or elsewhere on the net. I am looking forward to being a part of this group. If you have suggestions on where to go to pick up two white egg layers, I'd appreciate it. I'd rather pick one up than order, however I'll do what it takes if you have suggestions.

Thanks,
Selina
Welcome RedCandy!

I live in far east Mesa too (Crismon & the Trail). Don't feel bad - I know nothing and that doesn't stop me from posting.

If you were here a week earlier I'd've added a few chicks in with my order as I just put one into Ideal.

If you'd like I'll call them and add a few. The hatch date is Jan. 25th so I'm sure they'd do it.

Let me know what kind and how many & I'll make it happen!

*** I'm not really used to this new format yet***

I'm off to make pierogies! PM me and we'll swap ph#'s and set it up!

*** two or three edits to this one - may be my record!***

so, the fireman is working, whoopdidoo! and i have SEVEN bales of straw laying in my driveway and it starts to rain up here in the cul-de-sac. CRIPES! all that free straw will be ruined(a friend had a hayride on NYE and was going to throw it out. um, hello! i have chickies!) so, the kids and i go out front to pull it into the garage and mind you i am 5'2" and my 8 year old twin girls outweigh me(together, they are not needing jenny craig at such a young age). after moving 4 bales i gave up and sent the kids to the neighbor's for a tarp

It is a coop I bought on Craigslist from Kyle from Chicken Coops For The Valley. I had him modify it a bit. The door was originally on the front. I had him move it to one of the sides since the coop is going to be placed in a dog run to protect them from predators. It is a nice open and airy design if you aren't familiar with it. The price was great at $160. He only charged me an extra $10 to modify the door. So far I have spent about 10 hours painting the thing. Have about 2 hours left of misc. and touch-up. I keep having to remind myself that I am painting a chicken coop and not one of the rooms in my house. I get a bit anal at times.

MEG!!!

How the battle with the Hovering Overbearing A$$holes going?

I am in the wrong Zone. Gilbert doesn't really care, but once the above mentioned A's are involved, they're involved. I'm falling back and regrouping. I'm thinking meat rabbits. Not as satisfying to the soul, but its only temporary. We'll get out of this house eventually, and move on to more appropriate quarters.

Welcome to the newbies!

I have 14 white egg laying chicks coming April 9th. I may not want all of them.... they are 'exotic' breeds and they won't be inexpensive.....
