Arizona Chickens

Though I wasn't able to make it this year, I hope to make it next year!

I want to thank everyone for coming to the show last Saturday! I just wish I'd had more time to visit with everyone. and I missed the photo Oh well, next year. Or maybe we can schedule an Arizona Thread picnic/potluck sometime later in the spring.

Mikey--I love the shirt--I wore it for awhile--but it got too hot on top of my other shirt. Thank You SO, SO much for all your effort at getting them and then printing them. You are AWESOME!

Sonoran- I was wondering if you recoperated yet. I was only there for part of one day and I was exhausted. I cant imagine how tired you were from setting up, attending, running the table, and then taking it all down!!!

Selina, I have found the best way to get boiled, fresh eggs to peel, is to first poke a pin hole in the large end of the egg. This keeps them from bursting in the water and it also lets the salt separate the membrane from the shell.

Then boil them in salted water. Don't be cheap with the salt; use plenty.

Then cool them down under the cold water faucet.

Next, poke a pin hole in the smaller end of the egg, and then blow into it. This separates the membrane from the shell. This is not a very sanitary way to do it, but we will be rinsing the eggs before we use them.

Crack the shell and use a tea spoon to peel them.

This works for me.

Not that too many of you know me, or my wife. And you wont really get to know me, unless I share things right?... We are expecting our 3rd kid end of Sept this year.
That will make this 3 kids under 3 ... Our 2 goats should kid next month, and I have 5 Icelandics that just hatched today, and 8 more pipped. This will put me around 100 chickens. and going to get a calf next month as well.
Its going to be a busy house/farm pretty soon.

Still recuperating...asthma kicked in and has left me pretty miserable. Fortunately my pulmonologist worked me into his already overbooked schedule, so prednisone and antibiotics are helping a lot. All the weather fluctuations are NOT helping, though. I stopped stressing as soon as everything official was over, and that helped a lot, too. It is fun putting on a show, but not something I would want to do frequently.

Thanks that thread helped and in the end one person was pratical and said that you don't want to high a humidity until hatching time. I think some of the people fussed way to much!

Here are the results from my hatch on Saturday. I had a "hatch" brunch. So much fun. I wouldn't have scheduled it if I had known about the show though. Hated to miss that!
