Arizona Chickens

OT but... Southerndesert do I spy a Shovelhead in your avatar? Every good chicken ranch should have a Shovelhead, and lots of Slayer and Agnostic Front I find the chickens grow up tougher and can take care of them selves when the get a good dose of old iron, Heavy metal and NY hardcore.lol

LOL indeed you do... 1978...93 cui...old school....time machine....yup makes me feel 20 again

Hi there to fellow AZ chicken people.
My name is Stacy and I am in Tucson
I have posted a few times at BYC, but now see that
I only posted in the AZ area one time...........and that was waaaaaaay back in 2008~
WOW!  Where does the time go?  I had totally forgotten that there was an AZ group here.
I wish I would have remembered that when I had to, sadly, give up our beautiful Chick-zilla a couple years ago.
She ended up being a HE, and we just could no longer keep him.
ANYWAY......
I am checking back in and going to see how I subscribe to this forum.

We just got 4 more chicks.  One is having some issues, sadly, but she seems to be a fighter.
Just wanted to say, "Hi"!!
Have a great afternoon!
Cheers,
Stacy

Welcome! :welcome

I've been having a slight problem with Cattiatore laying her eggs under a bush in the yard. I put a few golf balls in the nesting box to show Paparikash where to lay her eggs. Now Cattiatore has been a good girl and lays her eggs with the golf balls. If I remove the balls, she goes back to the bush. I love going out and finding 3 golf balls, 1 brown egg and 1 green egg all nested together.

My dog watched the chickens and figured out how to open the treadle box. She apparently like chicken feed. Ugg. She is also much heavier than the chickens (55 lbs) and tipped the treadle feeder over and all the food spilled out onto the ground. Darn dog. I can't complain too much. She is pretty good about keeping an eye out for the big prey birds as well as chasing the doves out of the yard. I can't seem to get her to chase off the littler birds though.

Hope everyone is having a good week. Sending out healthy chicken vibes.

I am really liking working from home 3 days a week. I sit in my office and watch the chickens all day.

I lag bolted my treadle feeder to the house.

Might solve that problem?

Welcome back Stacy!

Umm you read that you must post picts right?

Hey guys!

I haven't been around much because I changed jobs and move and moved the kids schools and just tried to upend life as much as I could in a 12 month period. You might have caught my post back in Movember about something killing all of the chickens. Well replacement chooks have arrived! It cracks me up how many friends give me that quizzical look and ask me to explain chicks and the US Postal Service. I just tell them; Step 1 cut a hole in the box, Step 2 put your chick in the box, Step 3 open the box. And that's how you do it. It's my chicks in a box. It's cool to see some new faces, I'm going to try to roll back a few pages and catch up on what everyone is up too. Can't wait for the kids to get home they're so excited to have chickens again.

Welcome Joel! It's good to have some more XY's around here!

Here we go...

I spent the whole day with Walter welding up a semi-permanent, movable, protable, free-standing fence to keep the chickens off of the patio.

I took everyone's advice (even though that got me in trouble last time

) and followed Gallo's directions to the letter!

It is too late to take pictures but it is coming out pretty cool.

Blinky seems to have taken a step backwards - her eye was filled again, (Yuck) but not as bad as it has been.

I put a packing peanut in with the infected ones to see if it is communicable - as per Pastry's guidelines on Bio-security.

We are going to set down now and watch "Dolphin Tale", it's been a long day.

Keep percolating on a BYC bike ride to crash board peeps coops!
