Took a while but I'm caught up.

My Olive Egger won't lay in the nest boxes provided... she always goes to the same corner of the coop and lays her egg on the floor... I always put extra shavings over there.

I've got to get y'all some pics of my NYD hatch chicks. Boston brought me a pullet yesterday from Heber that I had seen in his barn. She is Icelandic and BEAUTIFUL.

.... and FINALLY, my HUGE Silver Laced Wyandotte has started laying... and I hatched her out last Easter! She is a heritage SLW from an egg from kathyinmo... gorgeous bird, gigantic and FINALLY has started laying. I was ready to put her in the oven.... I'll bet she dresses out nicely.

I've never been able to get any of mine to lay in the nest box. Finally I gave up, took the nest box out and make sure they have extra straw in the corner they all use. I figure that they know more about laying eggs than I do.

Mikey: Any word about the feral roos?

Only got 3 (of 12) doors on today. I put so many in so everything is really accessible.

There will be 1 x 2 wire on the inside of the doors and some sort of wood panel that hinges up on the outside.

This is the door to the upper coop for the adolescents.

The ramp will of course be at a much shallower angle.

I forgot to take into consideration the offset of the gate latch pin so the chickies will have to duck a bit as they go into the upper coop.

Fun morning:

We left the young'uns in the tractor overnight with a heat lamp. I went outside to feed & water them and hear that alarmed sound.

(The one they make when they are playing "Keep Away" and they're "It")

One of the Spitzen-peepers burrowed under the edge and was outside the tractor running back and forth peeping in alarm mode.

(Glad no neighborhood carnivores scooped her up!)

We also made the decision (with the Bio-security Queen's blessing (Thanks Pastry!)) to put the App Spitz and the bullet proof packing peanut back in with the rest of them. The spitz's eye has been clear for several days now & I'm going to disinfect everything in site with the Oxine this afternoon.

I'm going to finish the new coop/pen/run thing today and bring it to the galvanizer's tomorrow.
