Arizona Chickens

Mickey, I read a lot online about Tylan since reading your post. I hope it is the wonder antibiotic that everyone says it is. One reviewer described her problem that Tylan cleared uo in a couple days that sounded exactly like yours. I hope this is your answer. Tylan also comes in powder form that you add to water. I assume you used the injectible since you were looking for the breast. Powder is about $55 a bottle but it may just be worth keeping onhand since it is a broadrange antibiotic. Anyone know a local source for Tylan? From what I read the respritory and eye infections are caused by contamination of feed and water from wild birds. They recommend sanitizing all feed and water containers weekly if wild birds have access to them. I will try to post the link later for the article I read. Good luck and keep us posted!

In2Ice - I picked up a 100 ml bottle at Shoppers for $10 - the kit-and-kaboodle was under $15 with the syringes.

We shot them up this morning - I fed, watered and re-fogged just now & I'm going to inspect them later.

Chicks got 1/4 ml or cc - hens got 1/2 ml or cc

Great to know shoppers carries it. I tried San Tan Feed, Aden's Hay Oasis and Higley Feed. Only Higley Feed carried it and they only had the 50mg dose (they carry but were currently out of the 200mg dose). Which one did you use the 50 of the 200 injectible? Was it hard to inject them? I was thinking of keeping some on hand just in case.

On a side note I came home from work tonight and raked up all the straw in the coop and run. Layed down fresh straw and fresh DE all over the coop and run. I love watching them scratch and pick through all the new fresh straw. They love it!

This bottle is 100 ml - It does have a big 50 on it. It is enough for 200 - 400 doses at the level I'm using. My bud did his peacock with it and used 1cc for that size bird.

Until I figured out where the breast was it was difficult. Afterwards it was just locating the skin in the right place. Tammy read up on it (she really is the best-est wife ever!) and found that it should be done for 3 days. I'm going to Shoppers now to pick up another round of needles.

I flipped the birds upside down felt for the keel, froward of the keel they have a pair of bones that branch out towards their shoulders. It feels like there is a really good muscle mass (breast?) attached to those skinny splayed out bones that I shot for. I have no idea about chicken anatomy but the skinny splayed out bones almost feel like a "wish bone".

Hope it helps.

Did they have the power that you put into water as well?

Hi Puffycheeks, That bunch of chicks have a lot of differant colors I am not sure about the one in the forefront of the picture. It has a kind of tanish look. A couple are white and I think I have 2 splash! I sure hope so anyway. Couple of the chicks have black spots!
How are the turkey eggs coming?I love your pictures!

Thanks for the nice words. Not sure what to say about the turkey eggs. Mom is still sitting but only on goose eggs!!! I took all of what was left of the turkey eggs and put them under a 100% reliable broody Muscovy!! We'll see.
