Arizona Chickens

They are good. No problems or illnesses, thank goodness. Integration with the 2 existing hens has been a challenge, though. Sherman, my top hen, isn't too bad with them anymore. It is the second one (Red) that is the real problem. She is just mean...and relentless. And she hates it when they run and act crazy. But they are so terrified of her that as soon as she is near...they run and act crazy. Then she has to attack them because she hates it when they run and act crazy. Which makes them more afraid of her. And on and on and on. I keep trying to reason with them. I keep trying to convince them to just be still. To just freeze, back away slowly, and stay out of her way. I keep telling Red to ignore them because they are just silly kids and don't know any better. So far no one is listening to me. Oh well, it has to work out eventually, right?

I don't know. I try to be a good neighbor and distract the girls when they start to get loud, but obviously they aren't quiet all the time. Most of the neighbors think we are a little out there (but I have to admit, they are really tolerant in that they just shrug and eye roll and then move on with their lives). It's kinda scary to think I might be influencing more deviation from the norm. Whoa. That's a lot of pressure.

I SHOULD GET A DONKEY!

pdx2phx that is one cute chick.

Construction has started on my run extension. This only took two hours up to this point. This build is much easier and faster than the coop was.

I have been fogging for about 2 weeks and figure I can discontinue it now.

That area is probably clean/sterile enough for Pastrymama now!

Does anyone have an opinion on fogging the coop with Oxine as a preventative? I was using 1-1/4 oz per gallon.

Some people who exhibit spray their birds' cages with oxine before putting the birds in. Not really as a preventative, but to kill off any germs that may be present. Which is basically what you would be doing.

Help, I need a poultry judge for the Navajo County Fair (located in Holbrook). The fair is September 12 - 16, with our poultry judging being on Saturday, the 15th. We need a judge familiar with the APA's SOP, and with showmanship. Please, I need your help in finding a qualified judge. If you are interested or know of someone who might be, let me know. Feel free to ask me any questions about the fair, judging, and location.

Thanks, Kris

Edited to say: I don't know why this post is highlighted like it is. I was getting a error that said, "server not responding" then, poof! Maybe it will help be get a bigger response from all you judges out there.

Kyle Tripp, Robert Kennedy and Gene Helton are licensed judges; all live in the Tucson area. Lacy Greer has judged several of the county fairs. I can come up with a couple of other names if you need more.

pdx2phx that is the cutest little chick ever, i really enjoy the peeping video and keep repeating it. i hope the other 2 hatch for you

Thanks notinoz! I hope they hatch too, although I'm not sure if we should divvy up any new chickies between the two broodies or put the chicks altogether with one.
